Note on Connor Lew

As I noted last Saturday, Connor Lew and his camp were seeking a specific valuation based on what they believed his NFL draft projection to be. Auburn’s NIL offer didn’t match that figure, and I wrote that we’d see whether the two sides could find common ground. Based on Lew’s decision, they didn’t. Coming off an injury certainly factored into Auburn’s valuation. https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/saturday-morning-notes-nil-and-portal-watch.8557623/

If and it’s a big IF, @HokeAI is correct, I don’t agree with the GM on this one.

I think this is the right decision for all parties. Lew needed to go pro in weak center class and not risk injury again /dropping further in draft with another year. Auburn shouldn’t pay him the money required to keep a projected 2nd round C in college football and needed to account for the injury in the valuation

Warsaw continuing to show he’s completely in over his head. Pretty hard to see Golesh winning right away like he’s stressed with this buffoon at his side.

How exactly is it best for AU? Also, just a hunch, but I’m betting Lew won’t get drafted as high as his camp thinks he will. At that point, it won’t be best for either party.

I expect Lew to be a 3rd day pick. That’s likely what he was offered from Auburn. I would have valued him a little higher, but it appears the days if wasting money are over. I can get behind that.

At some point, someone is valuable enough to pay up for, right? I personally think Crawford is. I wish we’d do the same for Lew. Obviously not though. At least we’ve got Xavier Atkins. Hope it all works out but this is an interesting/dangerous strategy for a staff that says they understand the importance of winning now

Atkins. Chasing winters and fegans and we tried with our Helen Keller LT too. we had competitive offers to Crawford and Lee. definitely willing to pay for those we want /need. We have cultural rot on this team, over inflated NIL deals that are not sustainable, and folks who just aren’t winners. a reset was needed on the roster. Luckily, we can make it up in the portal with good evaluations and deals from freed money and supplemented with USF transfers. We should be fine if we do those things. That’s when we start to see if Golesh is the right guy. don’t forget, these players couldn’t win now and that’s why we needed a new coach

The football that we have been accustomed to for all our lives is no more. 🥹 Adapt or die.

Sounds like they think Coleman is. This crowd seems to be paying a premium for producers at key positions and getting quality at others. It’s the NFL salary cap model. I like it. Auburn is not Texas. Can’t pay everyone whatever they (and their uncle) ask for.

So you want Hugh back. I mean hell he’ll throw everyone a bag it wasn’t his money.
