Oats vs Rest of SEC

Have noticed over our past few games the broadcast discussing our long win streaks over several of the opponents so I dug into how we have fared against each team in the SEC recently. I completely cherry picked the timeframe based on what made Alabama look best. We only have two losing streaks over 1 game which are UF and UTk. Funny enough we had a 4 game win streak against UF and 3 game win streak against UTk prior to the 5 game losing streaks. Auburn - 2 in a row (5 out of 7) Arkansas - 6 in a row (7 out of 8) Florida - L 5 in a row (4 out of 9) Georgia - 3 in a row (7 out of 8) Kentucky - 4 in a row (5 out of 6) LSU - 5 in a row (10 out of 11) Ms. St. - 9 in a row (12 out of 13) Mizzou - 1 in a row (5 out of 6) Oklahoma - 2 in a row (3 out of 5) Ole Miss - 1 in a row (8 out of 9) Sou. Car. - 11 in a row (13 out of 14) UTk - L 5 in a row (3 out of 8) Texas - L 1 in a row (1 out of 2) A&M - 4 in a row (4 out of 4) Vandy - L 1 in a row (9 out of 12)

Nate Oats was the best thing to ever happen to Alabama basketball.

I just didn’t realize it was that bad. The rest is good. Major recent blemish though.

Hard to ignore the job Golden is doing at UF. Won with 3 guards last year ... this year with the big guys.

Golden had the guards and the Big Boys last year!! They complimented each other very well. This season Boogie Fland started off slow but has come around lately. One thing I like about Bama is that Sherrill has really improved as the season has gone along. Really helps to have outside - inside game.

It’s not the least bit shocking those streaks have come while we haven’t had a legitimate inside defensive presence and/or a guard with the size and defensive skill of a Herb Jones. We might have a single good defensive piece here or there, but you need a good set of those defenders against those teams. Our typical style and roster build just doesn’t mesh well with the Floridas and Tennessees, especially if we aren’t hitting 3’s at a high rate that night.

Florida has had the best front court the last 2 years. Not a lot of teams have beaten them. It doesn't help we got them 6 times the last 3 years. As long as they have their front court and their guards are average they will dominate the league. Tennessee has been bad luck mixed with a bad match up. We shouldve beaten them last year. We controlled 99% of that game. We had two starters out this year against them. We've also had to play at their place 4 straight years.

Appreciate all Oats has done for Bama basketball, but, IMO, C.M. Newton is the best thing to happen to Bama basketball. He integrated the program and led Bama to their appearances in the NIT (when that meant something) and the NCAA tournament. Also, credit for all of that should be given to someone you may have heard of, Paul W. Bryant, the man who hired Newton.

Not to diminish what Newton did but this is comparing apples and oranges. The style of the game and how you assemble a team has completely changed. Also most people on this board probably weren't even alive the last time he coached a game for Bama. I think its fair to say that both were incredibly vital to the program in different ways.

Has to end to UT to make sure we are a top 4 seed in sec tournament and possible 3 seed in the NCAA tournament. We need that game badly on the road.

UT just seems to have our number for sure, which is annoying. I think its UT's physicality and UF's size in the paint

So then don’t we need to credit the man who hired Bryant? Or just go back to George Denny deciding that sports were important? That type of logic is just silly. I’m sorry, but if you’re watching Alabama basketball in the current era and thinking “man, I’m glad Bear hired CM Newton” then you’re missing the plot.

Who gives a crap? We’ve won a lot more significant games than UT while Oats has been here.

That's crazy talk. Just on this team, the development of Philon, Holloway, Sherrell, etc are just slap you in the face obvious.
