disappointing and depressing portal season. As I see it the only groups to improve are QB and TE. TE is the only significant upgrade IMHO.

That seems right. Maybe a couple that broke even. Looking at 4-8 again.

did we improve:
Qb: yes (not impressed)
Rb: no (not yet hopefully)
Wr: I think so
Te: Astronomically yes
OL: no
DL: would’ve been yes but now no
LB: no
Db: no because of Dixon yes because of Allen
OC: immeasurable

So, why exactly have we given Michael Lombardi $3M dollars in base salary over two years?

Fit. All that matters.

I agree. W/"three-ish" spots left to offer. Not great.
If they would have loaded up on o-line, it seems like, that could have solved several problems in that it gives the QB more time, WRs more time to get open, RBs more holes, & keeps the defense off the field. But what do I know?
Totally anecdotal, but looking at my CFB list in Twitter (which is pretty much every major CFB reporter), I see steady stream of portal signings being tweeted. The major guys. How many of our signings would rate a tweet by a CFB reporter?

oline definitely the biggest whiff in my opinion.
Not sold on the linebackers
nothing in secondary , but I do think they’re banking on a lot of young talent and development
negligent of the staff to be caught flat footed on DT. I don’t care what kids told them. They’re kids and agents. You have to be prepared for chaos

An offense is only as good as its OL. Our OL haul is not good enough. Not nearly good enough. TE doesn’t matter if the QB is getting hit at the same time he receives the ball.

You hope** the QB room improved
brought in a mid QB and 3 guys who haven’t taken any snaps when the game is still in the balance

I still go back to what Tommy and others said: you had to either find an elite QB or significantly upgrade at OL. Neither happened.
I’ll take it one step further. Bill and Lombardi said they would build from the inside out. The lack of investment in either line is perplexing. It doesn’t match their talk.

Lombo said we are trying to build through HS recruiting. According to another Carolina fan site...the messaging from the football office is 26 is a building year towards a strong 2027 year. It seems that Greg Barnes is still saying that 26 is put up or shut up year, which I hope is true. I don't want to sit through another year like last year.
I say all that to say....Lombo has not impressed me either in this portal window.

Recruiting and Portal:
QB: ++ significantly better
OL: - got younger and less experienced but no more talented
TE: +++ night and day
WR: +
RB: push
DE: push
DT: - -
LB: -
CB: -
S: -
Offense could be a pleasant surprise but defense looks highly developmental
