Asked internally and it looks like 2027 recruiting is the focus. They will always stay ready for whatever but transfer portal is not the priority now.

Schools are limited to a roster size of 105, all of which can be scholarships or only a portion of them, that’s up to each school. So you have to count everyone on the roster. I think if you look at last year’s Oregon roster, count everyone who hasn’t entered the portal or declared for the NFL draft, and add in all the newcomers, you’ll find Oregon’s roster size is in the upper 90s right now.Aren’t we at like 75 ish scholarships? According to this, we have 46 out and 36 in so far. Doesn’t include walk ons that we might pick up but it does have walkons that have transferred out.

Further scouting of graduate transfers and the portal would be unsurprising.

Corpatty said:Exactly. Here's an example - the roster includes a guy like Mark Weipert who is technically a PWO. But he had offers to play QB at Wazzu, UW and OSU and many more. If you don't think he is getting the full benefits of a scholarship + NIL as a "PWO" I don't know what to tell you. He has one of the 105 - and I seriously doubt any on Oregon's 105 is paying for school.Again, the scholarship distinction is irrelevant anymore. The oline and linebackers are going to keep next year from being special. Maybe the coaching as well, guess we’ll see about that.

Definitely our weakest portal class under Dan, but that is because of the high school recruiting the past few years and retaining guys. If either OL or LB end up stopping us from winning a natty I think next offseason will be a very toxic one.

I never said anything about the 85 scholarship limit. For some, that is probably true. I know a few myself on the roster though that are paying for school and don’t just get NIL to cover the cost. You can think whatever you like.

Obviously a lot of time to rectify this, just if true, seems like the staff are setting themselves up for quite a bit of recruiting workThis also allows you to sign a bigger recruiting class this cycle.

NIL money and NFL $$$ are not at linebacker. Hard hitting, stop RBs in their tracks, sound positional play, take on linemen, sideline to sideline, cover RBs and TEs downfield …
Like TEs, high level LBs make a huge difference. The elite battles for preps and the projection of safeties bulking up as LBs is brutal. Now that the Ducks are serious in the trenches and becoming TE-university (having had excellent TEs in the past), the next upgrade is, IMHO, at LB.
It will come from the preps (elite) and internal development (bulking up and with speed). Next year — got a feeling — will surprise in a good way at LB.

Chile Duck’s roster count for last year finished at 99 total. If we’re in the mid 90’s now, there’s just a handful of potential spots anyway. Scant margin to keep open a few spots depending on how spring practices go, if anyone interesting shakes out from the grad transfer ranks, any reclassifications, etc.

But if this season doesn’t go according to plan, I do hope Dan will make tough choices when it comes to staff if needed as Jhops comment about him wanting yes men around him is somewhat concerning. Not adjusting the way you need to after tough losses is how a coach eventually becomes James Franklin. You mean very toxic on the scoopduck message board lol. JustinHopkins said:So you return all these guys but appear to have a meh oline and linebackers and the reason is to get more high school recruits? If true that is a crap plan. You hope you’re genuinely elite at dline, RB, QB, WR, TE, and DB’s but say “who needs linebackers and lineman. So weird. This also allows you to sign a bigger recruiting class this cycle.
