Potential basketball HC options?

Presumably JD’s last year- who are some realistic options? I would love for us to grab a young and upcoming coach- but we know Terry prefers has beens.

Dawkins has 1 more year left on his contract. You dont need to worry about a pool of HCs if UCF's Revshare/NIL budget remains in the bottom 10% of this conf.

Money has nothing to do with the performance last night. If we miss the tourney this will be his last year.

So there are no up and coming HC’s at lower divisions that would jump at the chance to make $2.1M a year and coach a Big 12 basketball team? No pool to be had? If true then why do we even bother having a program?

Wasnt talking about last night ..Just meant if we were to dream of new HCs...without more $$$, most will never come.

Sure...there are a ton of unproven up and coming HCs with zero guarantee of future success but most fans dream of a big name HC. While NIL/Revshare is most important, even the $2.1 Million HC salary is basically laughable in P4 standards so if someone is really good, they will go where the $$$ (NIL and Salary) are located.

Dawkins has the 64th highest salary in college basketball. (Note: BYU L's Young has a $30 Million 7 yr deal for an average of $4.28 Million per year...plus a TON of NIL $$). Salaries are important but Revshare/NIL might trounce that. (A dream if UCF gets a ton of NIL $$$...a new HC woukd take a smaller salary to win quickly then bounce to a bigger program with much higher salary and more NIL $$$...but it would be a win for UCF since it woukd mean UCF probably advanced in the NCAAs).

I’m torn. This league is so tough that with our resources can we ever produce a team over 18 games that can finish above 500 and get in the tourney? Maybe not. We have no real bball history to draw on. We might need to accept that just being competitive and making secondary tournaments is the best we can do. Football is number one at UCF and we need to get our house in order there first. The league also isn’t as deep on the football side and so we should be able to right the ship more easily. 18 league games in basketball is kind of like a 162 game baseball schedule eventually the predictive analytics win out and the power programs in the Big12 rise and the pretenders fall.

I agree it will be hard to maintain success in basketball, but is the occasional splash in the pan too much to ask for? Johnny has made the roster work for the most part, but we lose because of lack of discipline. I will say, the likelihood of Terry hiring someone worse than Johnny is pretty high unfortunately.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over … you know the rest. I would rather take a flyer on an up and coming mid major coach for a few years than just keep doing this sh1t every year. I don’t care who it is. Hire a coach for 1 million and put the other into nil. No need to let Dawkins keep coasting based on his pedigree/he’s a good guy/NIL isn’t his fault mantra. Either we are serious about basketball or we aren’t. Pick one and move on. I’m fine with basketball sucking, as long as I know we truly are doing all we can to improve. See my first sentence regarding that.

Yea. We can afford to take a flyer on someone who has potential but may be a risk. What exactly are we gambling with?

That decision has been made for decades. UCF is a football school and UCF needs Foitball REVENUE to support most of our programs because without Football Revenue...the entire athletic program will collapse. Whoever is thr UCF ADs #1 goal that should demand 95% of their attention is how can we make Football successful since that's where thr $$$ are and can come from in the future. Now for those that love Big 12 Basketball, the above makes it very hard to compete in this conf...but unless someone wants to dump $4 or $5 Million extra into NIL each and every year...it will be very hard to sustain a winning Big 12 Hoop.program with our level of funding. Yes, we might have e a magical season every 5 or 7 yes but if anyone WINS here (come March), said HC will immediately bolt to a better funded program.

Yes...he is one of them but St John's gets a ton of other alumni $$ (many on Wall Street) that funds over half their NIL pool. St John's NIL pool this year for Hoops was around $11 - $12 Million.

We don’t have $4-5M in NIL this year and yet, prior to 3 games ago, we were firmly in the NCAAT and on the verge of being ranked. Someone absolutely can win here without $4-5M in NIL. We simply need a coach who can maintain fire and focus for an entire season and not have total collapses every season like what’s occurring under CJD.

We’re just asking for Junior as Coach and leftover $$ from Repole for NIL. Gotta change something at this point.

Now let’s do CJD’s big 12 record. I think our(at least mine) frustration lies in the Groundhog Day scenario every year. I will be happy to be wrong and we make the tourney(the real one) but at what point does CJD get put in the hot seat? I don’t mean no extension, I mean actual threat of parting ways? Ask yourself ”Do we have enough talent to compete in the Big 12?” If the answer is yes, then ask yourself what else needs to be changed… If the answer is no, then ask who put this team together?
