Worse…..We are becoming irrelevant

There was a time not long ago when if Kentucky lost it was a headline in the news. People were shocked. It was a story. Not so much in the past 4 to 5 years. We are slowly becoming a dormant blue blood. An anachronism. A memory. A throwback. As a fan for over 50 years, this sad reality removes joy from my life. Every year since I was a young child, I looked forward to Kentucky basketball season with a sense of expectation and pride. I find myself not even wearing Kentucky shirts to the supermarket anymore after some of our recent losses. Sucks.

Judging by the crowd at the Alabama game we are no longer everyone’s Super Bowl.

Kentucky’s struggles have been a constant discussion with national media. It’s been one of the most talked about stories in college basketball.

Pope hasn't been competitive in half the P4 games he's coached.... It doesn't take long for that to gut a program. That said, you could fire him today, hire Pearl today and wed win more games the rest of the year, and play with way more heart and intensity. Even with Pearl not knowing these players

I mean it’s people on here even think that this product is acceptable that’s why we are irrelevant some people genuinely think us losing like this is not a big deal! I did not grow up being a uk fan and losing by 20 in the first half hardly ever ! ITS NOT OKAY the reporting of how he acts on the recruiting trail NOT OKAY and not treating this like a transactional business is NOT OKAY. TBH I get we want players who care but it’s a business now these guys are under essentially one year contracts get a GM get a new coach and get someone who is progressive and forward thinking who can delegate

We need more intensity more talent and more heart this program is essentially Indiana atm

Judging by price of tickets for UK road games, I disagree.

Cal shouldn’t be the coach of either I think Tommy Loyd should be call number one he has Arizona rolling because I don’t think we are getting Oats. But Pope realistically will give us 2-3 years we probably will make the tourney and go to round of 32 and lose 12 games a year never be top 5-7 but somewhere in the 16-25 if we are lucky and be an 8-9 seed that’s the standard we have under pope we gave him 20million ( that’s more than BYU) and we have zero elite players outside of an injured JQ. Also Jasper and JQs family are unhappy for good reason so that’s gonna hurt recruiting. Also we can’t recruit elite players anyway and on top of that we were promised a good offensive system and our center is supposed to be running the offense from the top of the key and yet our system is worse than Caliparis g sloppy dribble drive

Not having a number next to Kentucky's name (aka being ranked) bothers me. I know the polls "don't matter," and that what really matters is the NET, but there's something about that little number next to the name that means prestige. I hate we're getting further away from that.

That's a good point. Kentucky is the second most expensive ticket on every team's schedule behind their arch rival.

Were these tickets purchased prior to the season and people trying to recoup their money though?

That's what I'm thinking. After my son and I walked out of the S. Carolina football game in 2024, we didn't go to another game that season. I put the remaining tickets on Ticketmaster for as much as I thought I could reasonably get, and got all of my ticket money for the season back. We didn't have any Super Bowls that year, best I can remember. 😉

I hadn't thought about this. I was watching the game thinking "Man, Alabama fans didn't even fill up their arena for the Kentucky game" but I didn't think about it from this angle. Sobering reality..

We’re irrelevant in terms of competing for a championship right now but we are still a talking point. But we are a good coaching hire from fixing that. Or our own current coach growing a set and fixing this issue instead of acting like a kicked puppy. The second one is unlikely but not impossible.
