South Florida head coach Alex Golesh has been floated as a potential candidate at multiple Power-Four openings around the country, including Arkansas and Oklahoma State. Golesh is currently in the midst of his third campaign with the Bulls, where he’s led them to a 7-3 (4-2) record this season.

Amidst the rumors, USF athletic director Rob Higgins gave an update on Golesh’s future with the program Wednesday night on social media.

“Coach Golesh’s representatives and I continue to have a lot of great conversations and both they and Coach Golesh know how fully invested we are in his long term future at USF,” Higgins wrote on X/Twitter. “We won’t discuss the details of those conversations publicly.”

“We all appreciate how totally locked in Coach Golesh has stayed on our program and student-athletes throughout this season, despite what a lot of the false reports that continue to circulate online suggest. Go Bulls!”

Pistols Firing‘s Carson Cunningham reported that Golesh had indeed interviewed for Oklahoma State‘s opening. On Tuesday however, Golesh denied this report.

“I have not,” Golesh said when asked if he’s had an interview with Oklahoma State. “I’m so focused and locked in on this program and this team. We got so much work to do. But, I have not. It’s humbling that people bring your name up. It’s because [the players] have done an elite job of building this place to where people are taking notice. Credit to our kids. Credit to our staff.”

Oklahoma State has been searching for its next head coach since firing Mike Gundy after the Cowboys’ Week 3 loss to Tulsa. Oklahoma State has not won since firing Gundy and is 1-9 this season.

While Gundy’s last two seasons with Oklahoma State were far from ideal, his successor will have large shoes to fill. Gundy was the Cowboys’ head coach for 20 years, amassing a 170-90 overall record, one Big 12 championship and three Big 12 title game appearances.

Gundy led Oklahoma State to a winning record every season from 2006-23. He won the Big 12 Coach of the Year award three times and took home the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award in 2011.

As rumors continue to swirl around Golesh’s status, it appears (on the outside) as if Golesh and USF are running it back next season. In the sport of college football however, nothing is ever certain.
