Ashtyn Hawkins, Elijah Davis ejected after throwing punches in Baylor vs. Utah

Baylor receiver Ashtyn Hawkins and Utah defensive back Elijah Davis have both been ejected after punches were thrown Saturday. The skirmish occurred in the fourth quarter after Davis approached Hawkins at the end of a play and shoved him in the facemask.
Hawkins responded by throwing a punch of his own as the two got tangled up and had to be separated by teammates. The Bears trailed 49-26 at the time the incident occurred.
It appeared that Ashtyn Hawkins was talking some trash to Elijah Davis, which prompted his response. Both players will have to miss the first half of their team’s next game as a result of the punches thrown.
Utah would hang on for the dominant 55-28 victory against Baylor. The Utes did so behind 380 yards rushing and five touchdowns on the ground as two players Byrd Ficklin and Wayshawn Parker, surpassed the 100-yard mark.
Utah improved to 8-2 (5-2 Big 12) with the victory but would need BYU to lose both of its final two games to have a chance at making the conference title game. The Utes face Kansas State next week as they will look to keep those hopes, as well as that of making the College Football Playoff, alive.

As for Baylor, the Bears dropped to 5-5 (3-4) and are still in search of their sixth win to become bowl eligible. They’ll get another shot at that when they travel to Tuscon to take on Arizona next week.
Utah AD Mark Harlan appointed to College Football Playoff selection committee
The College Football Playoff commissioners have formally approved the appointments of Utah athletic director Mark Harlan to the CFP selection committee and the promotion of Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek to the group’s new chair, according to On3‘s Pete Nakos. The Playoff committee confirmed the news shortly after it broke in a press release Thursday afternoon.
This comes after Thursday’s earlier news that Baylor AD Mack Rhoades is stepping away from his chairmanship role and the selection committee due to personal reasons.
“We are deeply appreciative of Mack Rhoades’ leadership and service as Chair of the College Football Playoff Selection Committee this season,” CFP executive director Rich Clark said in the release Thursday. “Mack has informed us of his decision to step down for personal reasons, and our thoughts are with him and his family during this time. We are pleased to announce that Hunter Yurachek will assume the role of Selection Committee Chair, effective immediately. Hunter’s experience, integrity, and commitment to the game make him exceptionally well-suited to lead the committee as it continues its important work throughout the remainder of the season.”
