4-star TE Jake Johnson set for busy weekends this fall
On3’s second-ranked tight end in the class of 2022 Jake Johnson of Watkinsville (Ga.) Oconee County has a few hats to juggle during the upcoming football season.
Johnson will continue to be the top target at Oconee County in his senior season. The weekends will be complicated. Johnson won’t be shuttling to a bunch of different schools that are interested in him. Johnson will attend LSU’S games this season.
He will attend “more than half.” Johnson is solidly committed to LSU moving into his senior year, though other programs check-in “once a month or so.”
The multiple hats of Jake Johnson
Despite being committed, Johnson’s visits to Baton Rouge come with layers. He’ll be there to cheer his brother, Max Johnson, who has been named LSU’s starting quarterback going into his sophomore season.
He’s a fan of LSU. Johnson is also a recruit, and LSU is still trying to make sure they impress.
“In a way, you’re a fan and a recruit at the same time,” Johnson said. “It’s a little weird. At the end of the day, I know I’m going there. They’re doing their job to recruit me. Ultimately, I’m pulling for LSU and my brother.”
Johnson is happy with how LSU has balanced its recruitment.
“They’ve been totally fair in it all,” Johnson said. “They treat me as a recruit just as much as Max’s brother. They’ve handled it well. I think it’s been great the way they’ve treated me.”
Madison Taylor, Jake Johnson TE duo brewing?
LSU picked up a commitment from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas’ Madison Taylor on July 29. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound tight end is the second tight end in the recruiting class.
Johnson doesn’t feel that it impacts LSU’s plans for him at all. In fact, he knows that there are multiple ways to use both players down the road.

“It’ll be great to compete with him,” Johnson said. “The game is changing a little bit. I believe tight end is one of the most underrated positions. They can do big things with tight ends, whether it’s changing the personnel or having a match-up nightmare. Having two tight ends can change the whole game.”
LSU commits in pursuit of elite RB Le’Veon Moss?
Baton Rouge (La.) Istrouma High School’s Le’Veon Moss is the 39th overall ranked player in On3’s top 300 in the class of 2022. Moss decommitted from Alabama on Aug. 12. LSU already has TreVonte Citizen committed in the class of 2022 as a running back.
LSU has shown that they’re not afraid to double up as shown with Taylor and Johnson.
Moss has come up in the LSU group chat. Johnson hasn’t seen a lot of Moss other than highlights passed along to him by other commits.
He expects LSU to be hard after one of the third-highest ranked uncommitted player left in Louisiana. Johnson knows he’d be happy to have him join the Tigers in the future.
“Coach O loves Louisiana,” Johnson said. “He’s recruiting the best he can to get all the Louisiana kids at LSU. We have a little commit group chat. All of guys do their best to help recruit. He’d be a big part of what we’re trying to do at LSU in a couple of years. It’d be awesome to have him.”
