We seemingly cannot go a week without some kind of chaos in college football. Upsets have taken place throughout the season and NC State just pulled off the top one of Week 10. The Wolfpack welcomed an undefeated Georgia Tech to Carter-Finley Stadium, only to send them back to Atlanta with a tally in the loss column, 48-36.

This one was an offensive explosion, both ways. Well over 1,000 yards were put up when combining the two teams, totalling 84 points. NC State led the way thanks to 340 passing yards from quarterback CJ Bailey and over 200 rushing yards as a team. Duke Scott has the headliner there, going for 192 yards on 21 touches for an outstanding 9.1 yards per carry.

Four different NC State players scored a touchdown on the ground as well. Bailey added another two through the air. Easily the best offensive performance Dave Doeren‘s team has grouped together this season — and on the biggest stage imaginable.

After losing four of their last five, NC State now has a signature win to celebrate. This brings them to 5-4 overall on the season, only needing one win to gain bowl eligibility. Some extra time to soak the Georgia Tech result comes due to a bye week. From there, the role of spoiler comes back with a road trip to Coral Gables with Miami. Beating the Hurricanes might give them No. 3 on the year, possibly ending any hope of the College Football Playoff.

Georgia Tech suffers first loss of 2025 season

Speaking of the College Football Playoff, everyone will be wondering where Georgia Tech goes from here. The debut rankings take place on Tuesday night, something the Yellow Jackets might have been inside the top 10 of. Now, where Brent Key‘s team is placed becomes a major storyline.

Thankfully for the folks in Atlanta, the push to be included in the 12-team field is far from over. Making the ACC Championship game is still a possibility. Georgia Tech just joins the cluster of teams with one conference loss.

Being an at-large big is not totally out of the equation either, depending on Tuesday’s ranking. A massive rivalry game against Georgia remains on the schedule. Last year’s heartbreaking loss is a tough one to forget and you know Georgia Tech wants revenge. Having a little extra something on the line only adds to the Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate.
