NFL Draft First Rounders by Conference
On3

Oddsmakers aren’t doing anything novel when it comes to this year’s NFL Draft. One of the prop bets is how many players per conference will go in the first round. No surprise here, but it’s the league that always dominates.

We’re talking about the SEC. And if it’s not the SEC, then it’s the Big Ten. When discussing most overall selections, the SEC has 209 since 2000. The league is the only one to even crack 200 during that timespan. The Big Ten is second at 129, followed by the ACC’s 116. The Pac 12 (97) and Big 12 (86) round out the power five.

So what might this year’s first round of the NFL Draft look like when it comes to players per conference? About the same. We turn to BetOnline for the odds for this year and discuss the stories behind the numbers.

SEC: O/U 9.5

The over for the SEC in this year’s NFL Draft is -250. And the under is +170. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels should be the first SEC player selected. Most mocks have the Heisman winner going No. 2 to the Commanders.

The Tigers also have another top 10 pick in receiver Malik Nabers. His teammate Brian Thomas Jr, who is a receiver, likely will hear his name somewhere in the later stages of the first round. Alabama always has a big contingent. First round contenders include edge rusher Dallas Turner, who could be the first defender off the NFL Draft board, along with defensive backs Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry along with offensive tackle J.C. Latham. Georgia also may get a top 10 pick in tight end Brock Bowers. Then there’s Bulldog offensive tackle Amarius Mims and Missouri edge rusher Darius Robinson.

Pac-12: O/U 7.5

If you’re taking the over, the odds are +250. However, the under is coming in at -170. But the conference will get the spotlight almost immediately when the NFL Draft starts, since Caleb Williams should go No. 1 to the Chicago Bears.

The Pac-12 offensive skill players also will be popular, with Washington’s Rome Odunze a likely top 10 pick. His quarterback, Michael Penix, also could end up in the first round. Other solid first-round choices are UCLA’s Laiatu Latu, Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga, and Washington’s Troy Fautanu and Roger Rosengarten. And don’t forget about Oregon QB Bo Nix. He’ll arrive in the first round if there’s a big run on quarterbacks.

Big Ten: O/U 5.5

If you’re thinking of taking the over for the Big Ten, the odds are -150. Meanwhile, the under is +110. It’ll be fun to see which of the league’s players is the first off the board. It could be Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy or Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. The former Buckeye may be atop some NFL Draft boards, but quarterbacks are more of a priority with teams in the top five, which means McCarthy could get the edge.

The Big Ten also produces quality linemen. This year’s draft is no different. Penn State’s Olu Fashanu could be the top offensive lineman in the first round. His teammate, edge rusher Chop Robinson, is projected amongst the top 32. Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean is also vying to be the first nickelback off the board.

ACC: O/U 4.5

If you want to take the under on the ACC, it’s -400, with the over at +250. The most prominent league prospect in the NFL Draft is North Carolina’s Drake Maye. Either Maye or Daniels will be the second quarterback off the board. Mock drafts favor Daniels with less than two weeks to go before the festivities begin.

Meanwhile, Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse could be the first defender off the board if it’s not Alabama’s Turner. Clemson’s Nate Wiggins is one of the top cornerbacks available. And former Seminole star Keon Coleman could make the first round if there’s a run at receiver.

Big 12: O/U 3.5

If you’re feeling bullish on the Big 12, the over is -155. The under is +115. Unfortunately for the Big 12, the two schools representing them in the first round of the NFL Draft are Texas and Oklahoma. But the Longhorns and Sooners played their final football seasons in the league last fall.

Former Longhorn defensive tackle Bryon Murphy II is on track to be the first conference player off the board. Then you have two Texas receivers — Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy as first-round contenders. Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton also owns a first-round grade.

Remember, the first round is April 25. You can keep up with all the NFL Draft coverage from On3.com by clicking here.
