Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide out Kayden Dixon-Wyatt has been a long time Ohio State commit but flipped his pledge to USC moments ago.

Dixon-Wyatt announced his intentions to sign with the Trojans at a Signing Day ceremony at the school.

“I’m excited about the culture USC is building and excited to be a part of that,” Dixon-Wyatt said. “I have all my teammates that were pushing me to USC and I like Lincoln Riley and the offensive fit.

“I wanted to surround myself with other good players and great people. This is is a strong class coming and we’re all excited.

Dixon-Wyatt committed to the Buckeyes back in May but started hearing some positive USC buzz for the last month. While Oregon was the school most often mentioned as a potential flip destination, behind the scenes, the Trojans were moving in silence and were able to get this done.

The talented pass catcher is a tremendous talent, currently rated the No. 144 player nationally in the Rivals Industry Ranking. He’s a player that has been on our radar since middle school and was able to make an immediate impact at Mater Dei as a freshman.

He has an athletic 6-1, 180 pound frame, high level body control, strong hands and wins contested and jump balls routinely. He’s not a burner but has some suddenness in how he plays, can make a defender miss and runs well after the catch.

He’s a highly competitive player and has a dog mentality you love to see in a skill player. He’s a willing blocker who wants the football and is a player we think can step in and impact the game early at the college level.

Ironically, prior to his commitment to Ohio State, USC wasn’t high on Dixon-Wyatt’s initial list. They were one of the last schools to offer him a scholarship, offering in February and although they did make a late push, finished third the first time around.

The Trojans never backed off Dixon-Wyatt and continued to pursue him during the season. While we heard talk that Ohio State wasn’t communicating with him very consistently, USC really ramped things up, especially over the last month.

Early playing time was a big selling point as it’s expected both of USC’s top two receivers, Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane, are planning to declare for the NFL Draft.

We don’t think staying close to home was a huge priority for Dixon-Wyatt, more of an added bonus but he is close with his family and a number of other USC commits from the SoCal area including three other Mater Dei teammates in Mark Bowman, Tomuhini Topui and Shaun Scott.
