When the Jayhawks open fall camp in two weeks, they will be without Bryce Foster. Kansas head coach Lance Leipold confirmed at Big 12 Media Days he could not make the trip.

Foster was slated to be one of four Jayhawks representing the team at the preseason media event.

“Bryce had a little procedure done that’s gonna hold him back a little bit,” Leipold said. “They didn’t want him to fly. So, you know, he’ll be ready the opening game and stuff. But it was just a decision we had, we made. He’s disappointed.”

The senior transfer from Texas A&M is expected to be the leader of the offensive line. He is coming off a solid season grading out 75.5 by PFF and earned multiple early honors.

Foster was just named to the Big 12 Preseason First Team and earned accolades from other publications.

“I went down to see Trent Carter, our trainer,” Leipold said. “I haven’t got any specifics and it’s still pretty early. What I’m thinking is, you know, he’s going to be really modified in week one of camp, maybe two. But by halfway through camp, he should be ready to go and be available.”

This spring Foster earned second team All-American honors in the shot put on the KU track team. Leipold met with Foster before he left for Dallas.

“I’m disappointed for him because he deserved to be here as well,” Leipold said. “I just spoke with him yesterday and saw him. Everything’s good.”

Kansas will open fall camp on July 24. Foster was expected to be the starting center when it started but that will open the door for other players. Tyler Mercer is one player to watch. He transferred from North Texas and played eight games as a true freshman. He was named an On3 Freshman All-American.
