Counting down the Alabama roster three players at a time. Next up for the 2023 series: offensive linemen Jaeden Roberts, Wilkin Formby and Kadyn Proctor.

77 OG Jaeden Roberts

2022: After redshirting in 2021, Roberts saw action in three games. Roberts worked at right tackle against Vanderbilt and right guard against Austin Peay and Kansas State.

Of note: After seeing action at both tackle and guard last season, Roberts manned the right and left guard positions for the White team offense in the 2023 A-Day game. Down 12 pounds from the 328 he reported at as a true freshman in 2021, Roberts displayed a nice blend of power and agility while helping running backs Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams rush for a combined 60 yards on 11 carries (5.45 yards per carry) in the spring game. Projects as a depth provider at multiple positions in 2023 who has Power 5 starter potential in the future.

75 OT Wilkin Formby

2022: Hailing from Tuscaloosa’s Northridge High School, Formby checked in as the nation’s No. 7 offensive tackle prospect for the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Enrolled at UA in January and participated in spring drills.

Of note: In his first A-Day game, Formby worked at right tackle for the Crimson offense. Fellow classmate Miles McVay manned the spot in the first half with Formby taking over in the second. Saw enough from both Formby and McVay to think Proctor wasn’t the only tackle UA hit on during the most recent recruiting cycle. For now, Formby’s focus will continue to be on development, something he’s done at an impressive rate in recent years.

What we wrote about Formby at the time of his signing in December: “Another tackle type who could cross train at the guard position. Like Olaus Alinen, Formby possesses a frame that will allow for increased bulk and power without sacrificing mobility. Self-made player whose commitment to improvement makes him a viable candidate for a significant role in the future. Attention to detail translates to tape.”

74 OT Kadyn Proctor

2022: Proctor, who initially committed to home-state Iowa before flipping to Alabama, ranked as the nation’s top offensive tackle prospect, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Enrolled at UA in January and took part in spring drills.

Of note: In making his UA practice debut during the spring, Proctor established himself as a legitimate candidate for immediate playing time at tackle. In going wire-to-wire at left tackle for the Crimson (second-team) offense in the A-Day game, Proctor didn’t give up a sack or quarterback hurry. Also had a key block on the first of two touchdown runs by Justice Haynes. After the scrimmage, Proctor was among those who received the Ozzie Newsome Most Improved Freshman Award. Assuming he benefits from time spent in Alabama’s strength and conditioning program this summer, Proctor will enter fall camp in the mix to impact the first five in Year 1.

What we wrote about Proctor at the time of his signing in December: “At 6-foot-7, 330 pounds, Proctor presents attributes similar to those possessed by fellow Iowan and current Tampa Bay Buccaneer Tristan Wirfs. Shows power in the run game and high ceiling where pass protection is concerned. With Alabama in need of starters and depth at both guard and tackle for 2023, not all that difficult to envision Proctor impacting the two-deep quickly.”
