Welcome to National Signing Day at BCS Alabama and the start of the 2022 early signing period for the Crimson Tide.

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. — We’re finally here. For many college football fans, the Early Signing Period is like a second Christmas. How a program builds its roster goes a long way — a really long way, actually — when determining how that program is going to perform in future years.

With today being the Early Signing Period, it’s time to see how Alabama’s 2022 recruiting class is progressing. Yes, there will be a few lingering commitments and other players waiting to put pen to paper until a later date, but a significant portion of the Crimson Tide’s class will be complete by the end of the day.

As things sit, Nick Saban has once again positioned Alabama to finish with a top-3 group. Coming into today, the Tide held the nation’s second-ranked class, only trailing the Georgia Bulldogs. Can they hang onto — or even improve — that ranking? We’ll know soon enough.

If you want to continue the conversation and give your input/thoughts on Alabama’s 2022 recruiting class, head on over to the BCS Alabama message board for the ongoing discussion. Jimmy Stein and I will be around to answer any questions you may have.

Updates on Signees

Stay tuned for updates on which Alabama commitments have been signed.

ELIJAH PRITCHETT, 4-STAR OT — SIGNED

High School: Carver (Columbus, Ga.)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-6, 280 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 49 overall / No. 4 OT / No. 4 GA

Commitment Date: September 28, 2021

What On3 has to say about Pritchett: “Big-framed, coordinated offensive tackle with high-end reactive quickness and dominant flashes as a drive blocker. Measured at 6-foot-6, 280 pounds prior to his junior season but may be closer to 6-foot-7 as a senior. Has average to good length for the position. Carries mass in his lower body, which aids his base strength and ability to anchor. A flexible, coordinated mover. Shows excellent reactive quickness as a senior. Explodes off the ball, stays low and generates a considerable push as a drive blocker. Capable of caving in his side of the defensive line. Quickly climbs to the second level and transitions from blocks in a flash. Looks to have strong peripheral vision in manning the edge. Drives defenders once engaged and has nasty tendencies as a block finisher. Active and competitive in pass protection with quick hands. Can continue honing his pass set technique but has the functional athleticism for that to be a strength down the line. Playing at a different speed as a senior, making him an ascending prospect.”

JAKE POPE, 4-STAR S — SIGNED

High School: Buford (Buford, GA)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 190 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 307 overall / No. 30 S / No. 28 GA

Commitment Date: August 16, 2021

What On3 has to say about Pope: On3 scouting report coming soon.

ISAIAH HASTINGS, 4-STAR DL — SIGNED

High School: Clearwater Academy International (Toronto, ON)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 290 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 150 overall / No. 22 DL / No. 21 ON

Commitment Date: November 9, 2021

What On3 has to say about Hastings: “The Alabama commitment moves up 33 spots to No. 42 overall. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder posted 11 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in eight games this season. The December graduate is athletic in his stance and explosive in the first two steps. He wins with both quickness and power. His ability as an interior pass rusher and run stuffer provides the ability to be a three-down player. He can play on the inter in a four-man front, or a 4i in a three-man front.”

SHAWN MURPHY, 4-STAR LB — SIGNED

High School: Unity Reed (Manassas, VA)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 211 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 51 overall / No. 4 LB / No. 2 VA

Commitment Date: July 25, 2021

What On3 has to say about Murphy: On3 scouting report coming soon.

TYLER BOOKER, 4-STAR IOL — SIGNED

High School: IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 325 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 37 overall / No. 4 IOL / No. 7 FL

Commitment Date: July 16, 2021

What On3 has to say about Booker: “Versatile, competitive offensive lineman who thrives as a mauling drive blocker in the run game. Started as a right tackle for national power IMG Academy as an underclassman before moving to left tackle as a sophomore. Has outstanding length with a near 7-foot wingspan and big hands. Locks on defensive lineman and ferociously works to finish blocks. Shows impressive upper body strength at the point of attack. Plays with high energy on a snap by snap basis. A good, not elite athlete for the position. Tends to bend at the waist and lunge at times in pass protection. Likely projects as an interior offensive lineman at the next level given his skill set. Still has positional versatility with experience at both tackle spots to be a swing tackle if needed. Has been a leader for the IMG program for a few seasons.”

ISAIAH BOND, 4-STAR ATH — SIGNED

High School: Buford (Buford, GA)

Height/Weight: 5-foot-10, 170 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 116 overall / No. 5 ATH / No. 10 GA

Commitment Date: December 7, 2021

What On3 has to say about Bond: “Explosive two-way athlete with the athleticism to excel at either wide receiver or cornerback. Has one of the better speed profiles in the 2022 cycle with a sub 10.5 second 100-meter time and a 21.05 second best in the 200 meters. Not big at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, but has a 6-foot-4 wingspan. Seems most likely to start out at wide receiver in college. The track speed transfers over to the field where he is capable of taking a quick pass to the house. Also shows the ability to separate on vertical routes. Has agility, vision and some contact balance after the catch in addition to the long speed. Can track the ball, but still developing some of the technical aspects of his game at receiver. Will need to continue improving his routes and has not always been a reliable hands-catcher, though he’s shown some improvement in that regard over time.”

EMMANUEL HENDERSON, 5-STAR RB — SIGNED

High School: Geneva County (Hartford, AL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 185 pounds

Rating: 5-star / No. 32 overall / No. 2 RB / No. 2 AL

Commitment Date: March 13, 2021

What On3 has to say about Henderson: “Taller, high-cut running back who excels as an outside runner. Long-strider in the open field who runs with nuance due to vision and natural tempo. Makes subtle leans and pivots to throw defenders off base. Is highly productive and a dominant force playing small-school football in rural Alabama. Also a top basketball player. Has solid, but not elite top-end speed. Could be a high-responder once in a college strength program given his dimensions and multi-sport background. Also has the natural build and coordination to potentially play other positions if needed.”

TREQUON FEGANS, 4-STAR CB — SIGNED

High School: Thompson (Oxford, AL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 181 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 157 overall / No. 19 CB / No. 8 AL

What On3 has to say about Shor: On3 scouting report coming soon.

ELIJAH BROWN, 4-STAR TE — SIGNED

Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 230 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 242 overall / No. 10 TE / No. 10 OH

Commitment Date: February 12, 2021

What On3 has to say about Brown: On3 scouting report coming soon.

JAMARION MILLER, 4-STAR RB — SIGNED

High School: Tyler Legacy (Tyler, TX)

Height/Weight: 5-foot-10, 195 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 90 overall / No. 7 RB / No. 17 TX

Commitment Date: November 25, 2021

What On3 has to say about Miller: “An every-down running back who hits the marks with verified speed, production and pass-catching ability. Among the more complete running backs in the cycle. Hyper competitive player that lines up at running back, splits out at receiver, returns kicks and punts and plays cornerback when needed. Has a compact body type. Has verified track speed with a strong 10.71 time in the 100 meters as a junior. Pairs that long speed with ability as a between-the-tackles runner. Shows good feet in the hole with the ability to skip and jump cut. Breaks tackles and maximizes yardage in a variety of ways. Also shows cutback ability. Can win with quickness, speed and physicality. Also is among the more accomplished pass catchers in the cycle with over 400 yards and eight receiving touchdowns as a junior.”

AMARI NIBLACK, 4-STAR TE — SIGNED

High School: Lakewood (Clearwater, FL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-4, 220 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 115 overall / No. 4 TE / No. 17 FL

Commitment Date: June 24, 2021

What On3 has to say about Niblack: On3 scouting report coming soon.

JEREMIAH ALEXANDER, 5-STAR EDGE — SIGNED

High School: Thompson (Alabama, AL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 235 pounds

Rating: 5-star / No. 9 overall / No. 1 EDGE / No. 1 AL

Commitment Date: July 8, 2021

What On3 has to say about Alexander: “Powerful, highly active edge defender who is among the more productive prospects in the 2022 cycle. Has explosive power in his hands, rocking opposing linemen back on contact. Able to occupy and shed offensive linemen to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Plays with a high effort level on a snap to snap basis and shines against top competition. Highly instinctive and communicative, working to align his teammates pre-snap. Best as a speed-to-power pass rusher at this stage. Has helped his team to two state titles as a sophomore and junior. On pace to finish his high school career with over 400 tackles and 100 tackles for loss. Smaller than other top EDGE prospects but has some compensatory strength. Could also possibly play as an off-ball linebacker at the next level.”

AARON ANDERSON, 4-STAR WR — SIGNED

High School: Edna Karr (New Orleans, LA)

Height/Weight: 5-foot-9, 185 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 73 overall / No. 9 WR / No. 6 LA

Commitment Date: October 30, 2021

What On3 has to say about Anderson: “Compactly-built slot receiver with dynamic open-field ability and refined receiver skills. Perhaps the most dangerous return man in the 2022 cycle. One of the shorter top receiver prospects nationally at a shade under 5-foot-9 but has a powerful, bulked build at that height. Registers as a top, complete athlete with top-end speed and change of direction marks. Posted multiple sub 11.0 second times in the 100 meters as a junior and a stellar 3-cone drill in the combine setting. Transfers that athleticism over to the field as a big-play threat with the ball in his hands. Has strong initial burst off the line with the ability to separate within a few steps. One of the top yards after catch receivers in the cycle with high-end agility and contact balance paired with the top-end speed. Open field skills show up on special teams where he has scored the most return touchdowns among top receivers in the cycle. Has true wideout skills as a natural hands catcher with the ability to track over his shoulder on vertical routes. Likely projects in the slot at the next level due to his size and skillset, but is versatile enough to serve a number of roles.”

KHURTISS PERRY, 4-STAR DL — COMMITTED/SIGNED

High School: Pike Road (Montgomery, AL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-2, 267 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 75 overall / No. 9 DL / No. 4 AL

Commitment Date: December 15, 2021

What On3 has to say about Perry: “Among the quickest and most disruptive defensive linemen in the 2022 cycle. Makes plays behind the line of scrimmage at the highest rate of his contemporaries. Has an elite first step, often streaking into the backfield before offensive linemen are out of their stance. Rushes from a variety of spots on the line, winning inside and the edge. Employs one of the best motors in the cycle to chase down plays. Gives full effort on every snap. Pairs his outstanding feet with finishing ability and a penchant for contact. Lacks prototypical stature and length for the position. Has filled out his frame, but remains to be seen where he will top out from a size perspective. His ultimate size may dictate if he plays inside or as a pass rusher in college.”

JAHEIM OATIS, 4-STAR DL — SIGNED

High School: Columbia (Columbia, MS)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 388 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 78 overall / No. 11 DL / No. 2 MS

Commitment Date: April 14, 2021

What On3 has to say about Oatis: “Absolutely massive nose tackle prospect with unique movement skills for his size. Measured at 6-foot-5, 388 pounds in the summer prior to his senior season. Productive and disruptive with some explosive moments. Makes plays behind the line of scrimmage at a high rate. Shows the ability to make plays in pursuit with speed that belies his size. Very strong and pushes the pocket. Demands double teams, otherwise will push offensive linemen into the backfield. Has a multi-sport background, playing basketball, baseball and posting strong throws in the shot put. Will need to improve his conditioning and trim down once he gets into a college strength and conditioning program. Older prospect for the class.”

TY SIMPSON, 5-STAR QB — SIGNED

High School: Westview (Martin, TN)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-1, 200 pounds

Rating: 5-star / No. 28 overall / No. 3 QB / No. 2 TN

Commitment Date: February 26, 2021

What On3 has to say about Simpson: “Versatile, well-rounded quarterback with the ability to stress defenses as a passer and run threat. Possesses a creative, backyard style of play with considerable experience making improvisational plays. Throws from a wide base with above-average arm strength. Has continued to progress as an in-structure quarterback and is among the more accurate passers in the 2022 cycle. Lower body twitch and footwork also make Simpson one of the more mobile signal-callers in his cycle. Picks up yards on scrambles and designed runs. Smaller in size and older than most fellow top 2022 quarterbacks. Has seen an uptick in production as a senior, putting together one of the best statistical seasons among his contemporaries.”

SHAZZ PRESTON, 4-STAR WR — COMMITTED/SIGNED

High School: St. James (Saint James, LA)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-0, 190 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 39 overall / No. 3 WR / No. 3 LA

Commitment Date: December 15, 2021

What On3 has to say about Preston: “One of the best receivers in high-point situations in the 2022 cycle. Has tremendous feel, timing and body control when the ball is in the air. Competes for the ball in the air and in traffic. Plucks the football with his arms extended, using his 9.5-inch hands. Has the foot quickness to create separation out of cuts. Flashes high-end start-stop ability after the catch. His burst off the line can close gaps against off coverage. Has excellent change of direction at 6-foot, 190 pounds. Quicker than fast, but possesses adequate speed. Plays faster than he will time. Talent carries over to production on Friday nights.”

JIHAAD CAMPBELL, 4-STAR EDGE — COMMITTED/SIGNED

High School: IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL)

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 215 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 55 overall / No. 4 EDGE / No. 9 FL

Commitment Date: December 15, 2021

What On3 has to say about Campbell: “Highly athletic, versatile edge defender who is an impact player on the most talented defense in high school football. Pairs high-end athleticism with positional versatility. Among the more athletic players on IMG Academy’s roster, clocking an electronically-timed 4.52-second 40-yard dash prior to his senior season. Plays as a rushing linebacker for IMG and has made the most splash plays on a defense that is two-deep with blue-chip prospects. Consistently wins as a pass rusher off the edge due to his first-step quickness and bend. Also has the ability to drop into space and play in coverage. Previously played off-the-ball at his high school in New Jersey, prior to transferring to IMG. Plays with high energy both in practice and in games. Always shows up to compete, regardless of the setting. Will need to fill out his 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame to be a full-time EDGE at the next level.”

KOBE PRENTICE, 4-STAR WR — SIGNED

High School: Calera (Calera, AL)

Height/Weight: 5-foot-10, 175 pounds

Rating: 4-star / No. 107 overall / No. 16 LB / No. 5 AL

Rating: 4-star / No. 88 overall / No. 11 CB / No. 13 FL

Commitment Date: December 15, 2021

What On3 has to say about Litte: “Thinly built defensive back with the technical savvy to play multiple spots in the secondary. High-end quickness is supplemented by his ability to process the game quickly. Has the cover skills to play at corner, nickel or safety. Plays with edgy confidence and physicality. Doesn’t back down from a challenge and throws his body around as a tackler. Tested against top competition in South Florida. Will need to continue adding mass to his frame at the next level and lacks verified speed and athleticism.”
