Friday Night Lights: Keep track of Alabama commits in action

Another Friday, another slate of high school games featuring future members of Alabama’s football program.

This will be an exciting week of high school football as nearly a dozen Alabama commitments will begin postseason play this weekend. Friday’s slate of games even features a playoff matchup that has a future Crimson Tide player on each side.

BamaInsider previews games that Alabama’s pledges will be playing in tonight and tomorrow, as well as a recap of what transpired on Thursday.

Where Alabama commitments will be playing this week

2023 Commitments (** Note: WR Cole Adams and TE Ty Lockwood are both out for the season due to injuries. Also, JuCo linebacker commit Justin Jefferson and his team’s season ended last week.)

Bray Hubbard — Hubbard and his teammates at Ocean Springs defeated Harrison Central 43-14 on Thursday night to improve to 10-0 on the season.

Caleb Downs — Mill Creek has an away game at Mountain View tonight at 6:30 p.m. Central.

Conor Talty — St. Rita (8-2) is on to the second round of the playoffs and will take on Prospect (9-1) tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central.

QB Dylan Lonergan — Brookwood hosts South Gwinnett for their final regular season tonight at 6:30 p.m. Central.

DL Edric Hill — North Kansas City (6-4) has a neutral site game against Fort Osage (7-2) at 7:00 p.m. Central tonight. This is the second round of the playoffs for Hill and the Hornets.

QB Eli Holstein — Zachary dropped their second game of the season in a 21-24 loss to Catholic-BR on Thursday.

DL Hunter Osborne — Hewitt-Trussville squares off against the Jahlil Hurley-led Florence Falcons tonight in the first round of the playoffs. That game has a kickoff time of 7:00 p.m. Central.

DB Jahlil Hurley — As mentioned above, Florence will host Hewitt-Trussville in the first round of the playoffs.

WR Jalen Hale — Longview dismantled West Mesquite on Thursday by a score of 70-0.

DL Jordan Renaud — Tyler Legacy lost to Rockwall on Thursday by a score of 17-46. They finished the regular season 2-8.

RB Justice Haynes — Buford (9-0) will look to finish the regular season with a perfect record as they’ll travel to Central Gwinnett tonight (6:30 p.m. Central kickoff).

WR Malik Benson — Hutchinson Community College has a road game at Independence C.C. on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Central.

OL Miles McVay — East Saint Louis takes on Normal West in the second round of the playoffs on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Central.

OL Olaus Alinen — The Loomis Chaffee School will host Taft School on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Central.

OL Raymond Pulido — Apple Valley (8-2) travels to Inglewood (10-0) for a first-round playoff game tonight at 9:00 p.m. Central.

RB Richard Young — Lehigh takes on Ida Baker at home tonight at 6:00 p.m. Central.

OL Ryqueze McElderry — Anniston (9-0) plays host to Sipsey Valley (4-6) tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central in the first round of the playoffs.

Tony Mitchell — Thompson (7-3) begins their playoff run with a home game against Huntsville at 7:00 p.m. Central.

EDGE Yhonzae Pierre — Eufaula (8-2) hosts Faith Academy (8-2) in the first round of the playoffs tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central.

OL Wilkin Formby — Northridge (7-3) also starts postseason play as they have an away game at Pelham (5-5) at 7:00 p.m. Central tonight.

2024 Commitments

DB Jaylen Mbakwe — Clay-Chalkville (8-1) hosts Parker (6-4) in the first round of the playoffs tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central. Mbakwe (knee sprain) is expected to miss this game, but will be back next week.

QB Julian Sayin — BYE

WR Perry Thompson — Foley (7-3) will have a home playoff game against Dothan (7-3) at 7:00 p.m. Central tonight.

TE Martavious Collins — Rome travels to Etowah tonight at 6:30 p.m. Central tonight.

2025 Commitments:

WR Ryan Williams — Saraland (9-1) hosts Wetumpka (7-3) in the first round of the playoffs tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central.

How Bama pledges performed on Thursday night

Most of Alabama’s commitments are playing on Friday/Saturday or are off this week, but a handful of members of the 2023 class took the field last night. Here is a quick look at how they performed on Thursday.

Bray Hubbard: Hubbard remains on fire this season. He completed 13 passes out of 16 attempts for 221 yards and two touchdowns in Ocean Springs’ 29-point win. He also had two rushes for 29 yards in two and a half quarters of play.

Jalen Hale: Hale put forward yet another strong performance with five catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns in one half of play. He also broke the Longview record for receiving yards on Thursday night.

DL Jordan Renaud: We could not find full stats from Renaud’s performance last night.

QB Eli Holstein: According to Robin Fambrough of The Advocate, Holstein completed 12 of 16 passes for 197 yards and had a touchdown in Zachary’s 21-24 loss.
