Four-star wide receiver Malcolm Simmons has committed to Auburn football.

Simmons, who is from Benjamin Russell in Alexander City, Ala., announced his decision Saturday during Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend event. He chose the Tigers over West Virginia, Arkansas, Liberty and UCF, among others.

“I love it at Auburn,” he said. “Auburn is like home.”

Two big reasons Simmons chose the Tigers are wide receivers coach Marcus Davis and coach Hugh Freeze.

“I like coach Davis a lot,” he said. “He is a great coach. (Davis) is a well-respected coach and he is going to tell you how it is. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything and I think he would be a great coach to play for and makes me feel welcome. He makes me feel special and it means something to me how he shows consistent attention.”

The same can be said for Freeze.

“Coach Freeze and coach Davis are a lot alike,” Simmons said. “They keep it real and I like that a lot. He is a great head coach. He has a lot of experience and I think he knows how to win big games.”

Auburn not stopping at WR with Simmons

Simmons, who is listed at six-feet tall and 170 pounds, is the second wide receiver commitment for the Tigers in the 2024 class. Four-star receiver Bryce Cain committed to Auburn in June.

The Tigers are looking for a third receiver in the class and have their eyes set on five-star Perry Thompson. Thompson is committed to Alabama, but is in Auburn for Big Cat and is predicted by Auburn Live to flip his commitment to the Tigers.

“I was telling my high school teammates that Auburn’s class of 2024 is going to be special,” Simmons said. “They’re getting the best recruits in the class of 2024. This month they’ve gone crazy. There’s no telling what is going to be in store for the rest of 2024.”

Simmons is ranked by On3 as the No. 283 overall recruit in the country. On3 also ranks him the No. 8 athlete in the class and No. 15 recruit in Alabama.

Auburn now has 13 total commitments. Simmons is the ninth in-state commitment for Auburn. The Tigers now have commitments from seven of the top 25 in-state recruits, including top-10 guys Demarcus Riddick (4) and Joseph Phillips (8).

The number of total commitments and number of in-state commitments could grow before the end of the day. Stay tuned to Auburn Live for all the breaking news.
