Five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman has flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to Auburn football.

Coleman, who is ranked by On3 as the No. 5 overall recruit in the country, announced his decision Friday on social media. He had been committed to A&M since July 4.

Coleman’s decision to flip to the Tigers comes after several unofficial visit to Auburn since October. Coleman has taken at least eight known visits to Auburn since attending the Ole Miss game on Oct. 21. He recently attended the New Mexico State and Alabama games.

Hugh Freeze and wide receivers coach Marcus Davis both were instrumental in the Tigers landing Coleman.

“They never stopped recruiting me,” Coleman said. “They came after me hard.”

Coleman on Friday helped lead Central to the state championship game. Central plays Thompson next week for the 7A state title. For the season, Coleman has 56 receptions for 1,229 yards (21.9 avg.) and 17 touchdowns.

He is the 19th commitment in the Tigers’ 2024 class and fourth wide receiver. He joins fellow five-star Perry Thompson and four-stars Bryce Cain and Malcolm Simmons.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Auburn now has commitments from three of the top five in-state recruits and eight of the top 20: Coleman (1), Thompson (4), LB Demarcus Riddick (5), LB Joseph Phillips (8), Cain (13), Simmons (17), DB A’Mon Lane-Ganus (18) and DL Malik Blocton (20).

Coleman is the highest-ranked recruit to commit to Auburn since Byron Cowart in 2015. Cowart was ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 1 overall recruit in the class.

Coleman’s On3 Scouting Report

Twitched-up receiver with projectable size and length who is arguably the most physically-gifted pass catcher in the 2024 cycle. Projects as a dynamic X wide receiver. Measured in at 6-foot-3.5, 185 pounds with a 33.5-inch arm in the spring prior to his senior season.

Coleman tested as a rare athlete during the spring camp cycle. Pairs his athleticism and length to result in a large catch radius. Shows the ability to make eye-popping acrobatic grabs in contested situations. Adjusts to low and wide throws. Frames the ball at the catch point, using good technique.

Flashed a relatively advanced release package off the line of scrimmage in the camp setting along with the burst and long-speed to separate on Friday nights. Has the long speed to separate downfield against top corners. Runs with toughness after the catch. Has a shorter stride length for a taller wide receiver. Doubles as an electric above-the-rim athlete on the basketball court.

(Coleman) is young for the cycle, not turning 18 years-old until his freshman season of college. Does not have the same level of gaudy production as some other top-ranked 2024 wide receivers as he split targets with Michigan signee Karmello English as a junior. Has shown several signs of a very high developmental upside along with a rapid spike in his development over the course of his junior year.
