Transfer wide receiver Robert Lewis has committed to Auburn football, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Lewis, who is transferring from Georgia State, took an official visit to Auburn over the weekend.

“I feel like Auburn is the right fit for me because of the scheme that they run could fit with me,” the wide receiver told On3. “While talking about football with Coach (Marcus) Davis, we were really on the same page about a lot of things regarding my tape. We were both saying the same thing, but in different verbiage.

“Also, with the role I will be tasked with while being in the receiver room, I feel like I could help boost them to another level.”

Speaking of another level, Lewis is excited about taking his skills to the SEC.

“It was an important part of my decision to play in the SEC,” he told On3. “A lot of great talent here and is still the best league to play in college football. Not many are presented with this opportunity, and I’m looking to make the most of it playing here. Great opportunity to prove to myself and everybody who has eyes on me, that I can play at the next level.”

Lewis impressed with Auburn coaches

Lewis during his official got to spend time with Davis, as well as Auburn offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.

“They are genuine people,” he said. “They’re real football savvy and know what they’re talking about. They know how they want to use me within their system. There are a lot of things that I could help the receivers with my maturity level, leadership role and my ability to win one-on-ones and score touchdowns for the Tigers.”

He also met with Hugh Freeze.

“He’s a good coach and real genuine,” he said. “As far as I know, his history and track record putting receivers in the league and how his offense is ran. I love Coach Freeze. He’s a cool guy. It’s my first time meeting him, but it felt like I’ve known him for a long time. He’s just a good guy.”

Lewis finished the 2023 season with 70 receptions for 877 yards and seven touchdowns. He had a long of 97 yards. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
