Todd Beamer (Federal Way, Wash.) offensive tackle Malik Agbo hoped Auburn would offer, and on Wednesday, Auburn did.

Agbo, who is 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, was glad to hear the news.

“I was surprised,” Agbo said. “I’m glad it came because it felt amazing. I’m really excited, really excited about it. The history of success that the program has had, the work ethic that those guys have, the winning history … it’s just nice that they want me to play for their school.”

Agbo has been in contact with several coaches at Auburn. He’s talked with Bryan Harsin, offensive line coach Will Friend, offensive line graduate assistant Patrick Kugler and recruiting coordinator Darren Uscher.

“I’m really close with all those guys,” Agbo said. “We’ve been talking for a while. They asked if I still had interest in Auburn and I was like, ‘Oh yeah. Definitely.'”

Agbo’s relationships with Harsin and Friend date back to his freshman year.

“I have a lot of connections at Auburn and they are all real close,” Agbo said. “I knew Coach Harsin when he was at Boise and I knew Coach Friend when he was at Tennessee. Coach Friend was recruiting me my freshman year going into my sophomore year.”

The relationships Agbo has with Auburn’s coaches, along with the interest in the program, likely will result in an official visit. Agbo already has a date in mind.

“I’m looking at taking a visit down there in November,” Agbo said. “I’m really looking hard at the weekend of Nov. 13, the home game against Mississippi State.”

Agbo in July listed a “Fab 5” of LSU, Miami, Arizona State, Florida and Oklahoma. The offer from Auburn gives the Tigers a chance to break into his top group.

“Auburn certainly has a legitimate chance,” Agbo said. “I’m keeping all my options open and seeing what they have.”
