JUCO offensive lineman Seth Wilfred of Las Vegas, Nev. signed his National Letter of Intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The Wilfred File

Position: Offensive tackle

Height/Weight: 6-foot-6 / 295 pounds

Notable trait/Auburn fit: Wilfred is a big body with lots of athleticism. Most of all, he is a strong pass protector. That is what Auburn needs more of.

On3 Industry Ranking: (88.55) No. 44 overall, No. 7 OT, No. 1 in Utah (Snow College)

Commitment date: Dec. 11, 2023

Chose Auburn over: Houston, Iowa State

Time of enrollment: January

Notable: Wilfred is originally from a small town where Wyoming and Nebraska border. He transferred to Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nev. for his senior season and didn’t start initially. He flew under the radar until Auburn found him. The Tigers love his upside.

Quoteworthy: “I enjoyed them walking me through position-wise where I would stand if I came to Auburn. I think it is an amazing place for people to come here. Not even just for football, even past football, what they have created. After being in the NFL they have a really great program for you to track the career path that you want to proceed in. I think that is a really great program they have here at Auburn.”

Breakdown

**Breakdown written by Auburn Live Recruiting Analyst Cole Pinkston

Wilfred could be the pass-protecting tackle that Auburn is looking for as it tries to revamp its passing game. He has the tools to become an elite pass blocker in the SEC.

— Wilfred will be able to handle one-on-one situations, or be left on an island, if the situation calls for it. He has the feet to mirror pass rushers and take appropriate angles on the speed rush.

— Wilfred is coming along as a run blocker. As of right now, he attacks blocks well, but gives up leverage too often. He shows raw power that will be improved in the weight room at Auburn.

— On the note of “getting skinny,” Wilfred understands where his angle needs to be taken. If he is in traffic, he has the understanding to work through it and find a way to his destination (usually to the second level). This is good for combo blocks on zone runs.

SEC readiness

While Wilfred is very talented, he may need a year to get rolling on the SEC level. He performed well on the JUCO level, but his experience playing football took a minor hit when he transferred to Bishop Gorman High School as a senior in high school. He played late in the season. Wilfred is immediate quality depth for now as he continues to develop, we think.
