Everything 'on schedule' for Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA — Florida’s starting quarterback, DJ Lagway, did not throw this spring or in Saturday’s Orange & Blue Game because of a lower body/shoulder injury. But Gators coach Billy Napier said Saturday the star UF signal caller is doing fine and is on track to play in 2025.
“He’ll start throwing here in a couple weeks,” Napier said. “In general, very positive there. The lower-body stuff is good. And he’s kind of getting in position for the next step. But in general, there’s a lot of positives. Everything is on schedule.”
Lagway, a rising sophomore, threw for 1,915 yards, 12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions as a true freshman and was instrumental in the Gators’ turnaround in the second half of the 2024 season. But when spring camp started in March the Gators announced that Lagway was dealing with some things and out of precaution the Florida staff limited him in practice.

Although he did not throw in practices, Lagway stood behind the quarterbacks and mimicked their movements. Meanwhile, the Gators did other things to keep him involved so he could continue to develop. Saturday, Lagway started the Orange & Blue Game and took multiple snaps. But he handed the ball off on all of them.
According to Napier, everything is good to go for Lagway moving forward.
When asked if Lagway would be fully ready for preseason camp, Napier replied, “Oh yeah. When we start (organized team activities) in June, he’ll be a hundred percent. He’ll start throwing in a couple weeks.”
