After visiting the Florida Gators this weekend, Miguel Mitchell committed to UF. After leaving campus, Mitchell declined to speak to the media but committed shortly before taking his flight home to Oxford, Alabama.

Mitchell dropped a top two earlier in the week, in which the Gators accompanied the Tennesse Volunteers as the suitors for the Alabama safety. Before cutting his list to two, Mitchell held offers from USC, LSU, Oregon and Northwestern.

Mitchell was a target for Billy Napier at UL, where the Ragin’ Cajuns made Mitchell’s top five before his July commitment to Vandy. Mitchell de-committed from the Commodores on November 3rd.

“I’ve been talking to Florida for a while. I’ve been talking to this staff since they were at Louisiana. They’re a bunch of good guys. I’ve been talking to them since then, so we go way back,” Mitchell told GO’s Corey Bender.

Since Napier came over to Florida, Mitchell was a name the Gators kept tabs on.

“They had been wanting to offer me, but they were kind of holding off because they didn’t want a bunch of other schools to chip in on me. He said once they saw USC offer, they wanted to let me know,” Mitchell told Corey Bender shortly after receiving his offer to UF.

Looking ahead, Florida will continue to target safety Jacoby Mathews to add to their 2022 safety haul. Four-star safety signee Kamari Wilson is enrolled on campus.
