After visiting the University of Florida on Saturday for the fourth time this year, On300 running back Chauncey Bowens has announced his commitment to the Gators.

A product of North Palm Beach (Fla.) The Benjamin School, Bowens was offered over the summer following a camp session. He made trips to Gainesville in January and April as well, but it was shortly after his first game experience of the Billy Napier era that convinced him to shut it down.

In addition to the Gators, the 5-foot-11, 210-pound Bowens possesses offers from Miami, Auburn, Florida State, Louisville, West Virginia, Illinois and Indiana among others.

“It’s just one of those elite schools, one of those elite programs you want to play for,” Bowens previously told Gators Online. “Just legendary, honestly, it’s just legendary. I mean, the team, look at Tebow and all those guys, that great team they had.

“A lot of the stuff, like, when you think of the Florida Gators, that’s what you think of. It’s just one of those elite schools. Like one of those elite programs that you want to play for.”

Since Sept. 1, Bowens has been in strong communication with the Gators. Running backs coach Jabbar Juluke made contact shortly after midnight once direct contact was permitted and is serving as the junior’s lead recruiter.

This recruitment had been trending toward the orange and blue for a number of months, as the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine favored Florida with odds of nearly 50 percent.

“We have been in contact a lot since Sept. 1,” Bowens said of the Gators.

The South Florida native has several family members who reside in Gainesville and hails from the same program that produced former Gators cornerback Kaiir Elam as well.

“Oh yeah, that’s my guy because he went to my high school, so yeah, that’s my guy,” Bowens said of Elam “We talk a lot. He actually came up a couple days before I got the offer. And you know, every time he comes up we talk. He just gives me tips on working hard.”

According to the 2024 On300, Bowens ranks as the No. 10 running back and No. 159 player overall.

During the 2021 season, Bowens racked up 1,193 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground, averaging 6.7 yards per carry. He also hauled in 12 receptions for 123 yards and an additional score.

Bowens becomes the second prospect to join Florida’s 2024 class, joining four-star linebacker Myles Graham.
