Stop us if you’ve heard this one before — Georgia has landed the commitment of a standout tight end, and this time, it’s Alpharetta’s Ethan Barbour

At almost 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, Barbour is ranked as the nation’s No. 192 overall prospect in the Class of 2025 and the No. 5 tight end in the country for the cycle per the On3 Industry Ranking. The Dawgs overcame Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, and Ohio State for Barbour’s commitment.

Barbour becomes Georgia’s seventh commitment of the Class of 2025 and the second tight end commitment of the cycle joining the No. 1 ranked prospect at the position, Elyiss Williams of Camden County.

As usual, a key role was played by Barbour’s future positional coach Todd Hartley who began building a relationship with the standout junior when he was still a freshman.

“He isn’t only just a coach; he makes sure you’re doing well in other things. He makes sure you’re doing well and school, and he makes sure you’re doing okay as a person,” Barbour said of Hartley in the late spring of 2022. “As I’ve seen in previous visits to Georgia, he takes care of his guys. They are like a family.”

It was a staffwide approach, however.

“Coach [Kirby] Smart flew into my school by helicopter earlier this year to check me out which was probably the highlight of my year, and Coach Hartley just always keeps it real with you. Those guys are great up there. Everyone, from my guy Kyle Simpson, the recruiting GA, to the coaches really does a good job of making you feel at home,” Barbour said in May of this year.

And while Georgia’s pursuit has been quite impressive, Barbour has seen for himself what the Dawgs do with his position.

“My parents have always taught me that actions speak louder than words and Georgia has consistently communicated to me from the beginning how I would be a good fit in their program,” Barbour said in July. “I love what they do with tight ends in their offense.”

With Ethan Barbour, Georgia is strong shape at tight end

In addition to Barbour and Williams for 2025, Georgia currently holds the commitments of two tight ends in the class of 2024 in four-star Jaden Reddell and three-star Colton Heinrich and signed two stars at the position in 2023 in four-stars Pearce Spurlin and Lawson Luckie.

The Bulldogs have just five total offers out in the Class of 2025 at the tight end position and currently hold the Recruiting Prediction for three-star tight end Bear Tenney, as well.
