Saturday’s G-Day scrimmage marked the end of spring practice at Georgia and that means that the Bulldogs recruiting efforts are about to catch a different gear. The spring evaluation period is upon us and the 15-day transfer portal window is open.

Neither of those things, however, are the biggest developments facing Georgia football at this time. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Bulldogs have quickly surged into the lead for Findlay (Findlay, Ohio) quarterback Ryan Montgomery.

They overtook previous frontrunners Florida and South Carolina on Monday soon after Montgomery made it known that he will be announcing his college choice on Wednesday, April 17. Georgia how holds 73.9 percent of the RPM for the four-star triggerman. Florida is second with 9.8 percent followed by the Gamecocks at 4.7%. Michigan is fourth with 2.4%.

Georgia offered Montgomery in spring of 2023 and he has been on the short list of Bulldog quarterbacks targets since. UGA appeared to have JuJu Lewis and Matt Zollers higher on the board for months but the latter recently chose Missouri over the Bulldogs, Penn State and Alabama. Smith is currently committed to USC.

Still, Montgomery has an official visit set for Georgia on June 21. He last visited the Bulldogs on January 22 and has been in Athens a few times over the past year.

At 6-foot-2.5 212 pounds. Montgomery is ranked as the nation’s No. 186 overall prospect per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting ratings. He’s the nation’s No. 14 quarterback and the No. 12 prospect in Ohio.

Once the 2024 season is over, the Bulldogs currently project to have just two quarterbacks on scholarship. Gunner Stockton is entering his third season with the team as a redshirt sophomore. Ryan Puglisi signed with Georgia in the 2024 class and is a true freshman. Georgia is also looking to add a quarterback in the current transfer portal, something it has communicated to recruits and every the quarterback currently on the roster. The Bulldogs also have a commitment from one of the top quarterbacks in the 2026 class, Jared Curtis out of Nashville, Tenn.
