Georgia is, once again, in a very competitive spot to land a talent linebacker. Kenneth Goodwin III (Bishop Montgomery; Torrence, Calif.) released his final five on Saturday and Georgia made the cut. The Bulldogs are joined by Michigan, Oregon, SMU, and Texas A&M. He’ll announce his commitment on July 1.

At 6-foot-2, 205 pounds, Goodwin ranks as the nation’s 358 overall prospect and No. 28 inside linebacker per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that includes all four websites that publish recruiting rankings. He’s the No. 32 player in California.

Goodwin was on Georgia’s campus in March while the Bulldogs were going through spring drills. He got to see a practice and came away impressed with what he saw. Goodwin even went as far as to name UGA his No. 1 school.

“It was very intense but disciplined,” Goodwin said at the time. “Their communication and how loud they yell out the calls stood out.”

As is often the case, Goodwin has taken numerous visits since that trip to Athens. That includes a trip to Oregon where he spent time with former UGA assistant and current Duck head coach Dan Lanning. It’s safe to say that he was impressed with that program, too.

“I’m feeling great with the connection I have with the Oregon staff,” Goodwin told Scoop Duck in April. “Coach Lanning, Coach Lupoi they have a great background with Coach Lanning being the defensive coordinator at Georgia when they won the championship,” the linebacker said. “So I can say they know how to utilize me and utilize my position. So I can say that’s good.”

Goodwin has taken one official already. that was to SMU in early May. He has three more scheduled before he makes a decision and will likely see Texas A&M as well. He’s supposed to visit Georgia on the weekend of June 6. He’ll visit Michigan the following weekend and then Oregon on June 20.
