Zephyrhills (Fla.) five-star safety DJ Pickett announced his top five schools on Friday evening. The No. 6 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Rankings included Georgia among his top five schools along with LSU, Miami, Michigan and Oregon.

Pickett is the top-ranked safety in the class of 2025. Georiga landed the top-ranked safety in the 2024 class in five-star KJ Bolden.

Pickett has been to Athens three times in his recruitment. RPM has Florida at the top right now, though the Gators did not make Pickett’s top five.

Georgia has recently grabbed Pickett’s attention with the new shake-up among the coaching staff. Pickett caught up with DawgsHQ last week about the addition of Donte Williams and Travaris Robinson.

Both coaches are coaches that Pickett has a lot of respect for from their prior relationships at their other schools.

“It got better in my opinion,” Pickett said. “They got Donte, Coach T-Rob, then Kirby and coach Muschamp are both still there. That’s four defensive eyes…“I knew coach T-Rob pretty well. Adding him with coach Kirby is just a win-win.”

Pickett has Georgia as a major contender in his recruitment.

“They sit pretty high,” Pickett told DawgsHQ last month. “They produce DBs. I’ve built a good relationship with all the coaches.”

DJ Pickett Scouting Report

Dynamic, explosive two-way playmaker who looks like one of the top defensive back prospects in the 2025 cycle. A big-time two-way player as a receiver and defensive back. Has a thin, lean frame at over 6-foot-2 and around 170 pounds. An extremely twitchy athlete who also excels in track and field. Turned in sensational marks in the 100 meters (10.62 seconds) and 200 meters (21.69 seconds) as a sophomore. A natural playmaker on Friday nights. Pairs his plus athleticism and easy movement skills with high level instincts and ball skills. Has elite range as a deep safety. Reads and jumps routes to make plays on the ball. Doubles as a game-breaking receiver with the ability to take the top off of defenses and come down with acrobatic contested catches. Finished his sophomore season with 43 catches for 886 yards and 12 touchdowns in addition to picking off four passes. Ranked as a safety early on, but could be a legitimate high-end cornerback prospect or even play some offense in college. A bit for the cycle, with a May birthday. Will need to continue adding good mass to his leaner frame.
