Royersford (Pa.) four-star quarterback Matt Zollers is set to be the first quarterback domino to fall for Georgia in the class of 2025.

The No. 17 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Rankings will announce his commitment on Thursday at 3 pm. Georgia is among the contenders.

In-state programs Penn State and Pittsburgh will have hats on the table as well as SEC rival Missouri. The Bulldogs had the last pitch to Zollers.

He visited Georgia on Tuesday. The four-star signal caller made stops at Missouri (March 20), Pittsburgh (Friday), Penn State (Saturday) and Alabama (Monday).

Georgia and Missouri are newer contenders to the recruitment of Zollers. Both programs offered him in January but have quickly pushed into legitimate contention for Zollers.

Zollers got to Athens in January not long after the offer. He’s been a heavy target ever since Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo made the trip up to Spring-Ford to visit the fast-rising signal caller.

Penn State has been a mainstay in his recruitment for some time. As has Pittsburgh. Zollers’ older brother plays for the Panthers.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Penn State as the team to beat on the morning of his announcement. The Nittany Lions have a 47.5 percent chance of landing the four-star signal caller.

What has he said about Georgia

For Zollers’ Georgia’s stability has been a key piece of the puzzle from the start. He and Bobo have connected. Georgia’s offensive coordinator as well as head coach Kirby Smart appear to be entrenched in Athens for the foreseeable future.

That was big for Zollers early on with Georgia.

“What stands out most is the stability,” Zollers said back on March 3. “Coach Smart and coach Bobo aren’t going to leave Georgia. A lot of head coaches say they wouldn’t leave. It’s pretty rare for a position coach to be like dead set that they’re not leaving. He’s been there for a while, he went to school there. He’s been to his fair share of places and this is where he wants to be. That’s nice.”

Zollers also felt like a priority early in the process for Georgia. Georgia made sure Zollers had every coach on the staff’s cellphone number.

That left an immediate impression.

“When I left there, I had basically everyone on the staff’s number,” Zollers told DawgsHQ back on March 3. “They check in probably a couple of times a week. I’m talking to almost every coach…It’s super cool to have a program like that who has been very good for the last couple of years (wanting you) is pretty cool.”

The last visit went well for Zollers and his family.

Zollers added to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, “I like them a lot,” regarding the Bulldogs. “Good day for sure,” Zollers father Pete said.

The big picture for Georgia

Zollers is at the top of Georgia’s quarterback board for the class of 2025 alongside five-star USC commit Julian Lewis.

Landing Zollers would likely begin to allow Georgia to shape the rest of the 2025 class. If they miss, the focus shifts to Lewis, who is still committed to USC.

Four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery also could come into play. Georgia’s quarterback room is setting up for a three or more-man battle for the starting spot in 2025.

Carson Beck played well in his first season as a started. Beck said no to the riches of the NFL to return to Athens for his senior season.

Beck will be preparing for the NFL Draft this time next year and Georgia will have a decision to make. Should Zolllers land at Georgia, he’ll join Gunner Stockton and four-star 2024 signee Ryan Puglisi in the fight to replace Beck.
