Evans (Ga.) four-star offensive lineman Mason Short is the next big chess piece on Georgia’s board for the class of 2025 to come off the board.

Four-star quarterback Matt Zollers committed to SEC rival Missouri on Thursday afternoon. On Friday, the No. 223 overall prospect in the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings will announce his college commitment.

Georgia has been amongst Short’s contenders since he was a freshman in high school Short originally committed to Alabama. He decommitted from the Crimson Tide not long after Nick Saban announced his retirement.

Short has already made multiple stops in Athens since he re-opened his recruitment. Clemson, Ohio State and Kentucky are also in the mix for the four-star offensive lineman.

Short has made stops at Clemson and Ohio State this spring. He was most recently at Georgia. He was in Athens on Saturday for one final look ahead of his commitment.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Georgia as the team to beat. The Bulldogs have a 94.8 percent chance of landing Short according to RPM.

What has he said about Georgia

Short has had a lot of experience with Georgia. He’s been on campus eight times in his recruitment. Georgia’s culture has been one of the eye-opening pieces of the puzzle for Short.

“I don’t care if you come in as a six star, seven star, 10 star or two star, you’re coming in there you’re going to get called out in film and that’s just the reality of it,” Short said back on March 23. “I love that. Everybody holds each other accountable.”

Kirby Smart’s coaching style is a plus as well.

“I love it,” Short said. “There’s no filter. He’s got a microphone in his hand and he’s yelling, screaming and cursing and there’s probably a family of three walking by the practice field. I feel like that’s being real. There’s no pony show or anything fake about it. That’s what the stands are going to be like. Why not practice what it’s going to be like in the game? It’s aggressive and that’s how football should be. It’s what college football is.”

The big picture for Georgia

The Bulldogs landed six offensive linemen in the class of 2024. Adding a pledge from Short would be a strong start to adding pieces that could compete with the group of 2024 prospects joining Georgia in 2024.

The Bulldogs have a lot of veteran names that will be impactful in 2024. The 2025 offensive line could look very different.

Georgia is looking to accumulate as many talented players in the front five as possible. Short could help at tackle, guard or even potentially center.

Flexibility and depth are something that must be plentiful to contend for championships. Georgia has executed that very thing in the past few seasons.
