Iowa City West star Ethan Headings is staying home. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Headings announced today that he has accepted a preferred walk-on opportunity at safety from the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Previously, Headings was verbally committed to North Dakota on scholarship. During the recruiting process, he also earned scholarship offers from Army, Air Force, Western Illinois, and Northern Iowa.

“Iowa has always been my dream school growing up,” Headings told HawkeyeReport.com. “As much as I love North Dakota and Coach Schmidt and Coach Wilkerson, I have decided to pursue my lifelong dream of playing in Kinnick Stadium.”

A versatile playmaker on both sides of the ball, Headings led Class 5A in receiving his senior year with 56 catches for 1,202 and 13 touchdowns for Iowa City West. On defense, where he will play in college, he added 46.5 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

“I love what Coach Parker has done in the past with Iowa native defensive backs,” said Headings. “I believe that there’s no better place to be developed by in the country.”

Overall, Headings is the fifth preferred walk-on commit for the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2026, joining fellow in-state prospects David Fason, Eli Robbins, Isaiah Oliver, and Noah Daniel.
