The nation’s 27th best prospect in the Class of 2024 has committed to Kansas State after four-star guard David Castillo of Oklahoma announced his intentions to be a Wildcat via his social media accounts.

Castillo committed to K-State over offers from Missouri, Florida, LSU, Tulsa, South Carolina, Texas Tech, UNLV, Oral Roberts, Texas, Illinois, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma State. However, it was a battle between the Wildcats, Jayhawks and Cowboys.

The do-it-all guard from the Tulsa area had taken official visits to all three of Kansas State, Kansas and Oklahoma State and was a top target of all three. It is very easily one of the largest recruiting statements that Jerome Tang and company have made since arriving at K-State.

Castillo’s official visit in Manhattan was for the Florida game on January 20. It was also not the only visit he took to Kansas State, though. He visited the Wildcats for a football game during both the 2021 and 2022 football seasons.

Castillo goes to Bartlesville High School where he is coached by former K-State guard Clent Stewart. Stewart was a guard for Kansas State from 2004-2008 and started 95 games for the Wildcats after being a four-star recruit in his own right.

Despite just finishing his junior season, Castillo has already broken the school record for points scored in a career. This past season, he averaged 23.2 points, six rebounds and four assists per game. He was also named a first team All-Frontier Valley Conference pick.

The future K-State guard has also won two gold medals for USA Basketball. He was part of the USA Under-16 team that won the gold medal in the 2021 FIBA Americas Championship and the Under-17 FIBA World Cup team.

Castillo averaged 10.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest last Summer in the U17 World Cup.

According to the On3 Consensus, he is the No. 27 player in the country in the 2024 class, No. 3 point guard and top player in the state of Oklahoma.
