UK Hoops Dominates in Rupp

by: Wilder Treadway12/08/12

Racing out to a 25-2 first half lead, the Cats coasted against DePaul and won 96-64. It was another powerful performance from the post players, with both DeNesha Stallworth and Samarie Walker recording double-doubles notching 17 points each and 13/10 rebounds respectively. UK has now won 26 in a row in Lexington, the third longest home winning streak in the nation. Oh and the Cats also forced 21 turnovers, just another day at the office.

Following the dismal offensive performance against Louisville on Sunday, the Cats came out shooting hot and with tons of energy early, and put the dagger in the Blue Demons from the get go. Mitchell was pleased with the focused aggression from his team, saying “It was a great team victory; everyone came in with great effort”. It was a hyped up atmosphere for UK Hoops in Rupp, as a school record 18,488 fans were in attendance. Receiving votes to be in the top 25, this isn’t a bad DePaul team, but UK made them look terrible.

The solid play of redshirt sophomore Jennifer O’Neill continued tonight as she had 13 points in only 28 minutes and gave Mitchell some more answers in terms of a solid point guard #UKbasketballproblems. Kentucky proved again they are one of the deepest teams in the nation as 12 players scored at least 2 points and they blew out a solid Blue Demons team without a monster performance from Mathies until the second half.

UK returns to Memorial Coliseum on Sunday as they face off against a very good Middle Tennessee State team at 1. The Blue Raiders beat Kentucky last season, and took Tennessee to overtime a few weeks ago. BE THERE. Oh and….tweet me @WilderTreadKSR.
