2024 four-star Humble (Tex.) Summer Creek linebacker and LSU commitment Xavier Atkins is shutting down his recruitment, he told On3. Atkins was in town this weekend for the win over Arkansas, when he told the staff he was locked in.

“I’m shutting it down for sure,” he told On3 in late August. “Just thinking a lot and really realizing where I want to be at, where I want to be at. I’m from Louisiana, so it’s just a dream, man. Having an LSU offer and being committed there, just going to play, it’s every Louisiana’s kid dream. I don’t care what nobody say.”

Atkins committed to the Tigers on July 5, 2022. Programs like Arkansas, TCU, Colorado, Utah, Texas A&M and others are trying to flip him and he’s taken numerous offseason visits.

Before this weekend, LSU hadn’t hosted the 6-1, 190-pound prospect for a visit since April, but he’s been to Baton Rouge plenty and the Louisiana native is ready to play for his home state.

“I got mad love for LSU,” Atkins said. “Every campus I’ve been to or every visit — don’t get me wrong it’s always been a good time — But it ain’t that feeling when you’re in your home state. LSU, it’s just different from everybody else. Everybody can’t do what Death Valley do. Death Valley just hits different.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Atkins ranks as the No. 260 overall prospect in the country, No. 25 linebacker in the nation and No. 47 prospect in Texas.

With 24 commitments, LSU has the No. 10 overall class in the country, according to the 2024 Industry Ranking Football Team Recruiting Rankings.
