LSU commit Davhon Keys dominates for another state championship win

Destrehan (La.) linebacker Kolaj Cobbins signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday with LSU. The four-star gave the Tigers another standout Louisiana native in its 2024 class.

Before he heads to LSU, Cobbins will be an All-American Bowl participant. The 2024 All-American Bowl on January 6, 2024, from inside the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, will be presented live on NBC and Peacock.

In January, the 6-2.5, 205-pound prospect will be in Baton Rouge to enroll early. Defensive coordinator Matt House and outside linebackers coach John Jancek have big plans for him.

“We just build our bond more and more,” Cobbins said. “Coach Jancek said, ‘You will be on this field in a few more months.’ He’s a real cool guy off the field. On the field as a coach, he was developing me as a better player because when I went to the LSU camp he coached me so (I could see he’s a) phenomenal coach. We (House and Cobbins) talk on the phone often. Can’t wait to get coached by him and play for his defense.”

Destrehan head coach Marcus Scott was all smiles for one of his program’s leaders when he committed to LSU. Cobbins’ senior season ended one game short of another state championship game appearance as Destrehan fell to Zachary.

“As a coach, we want them first and foremost to be productive citizens and leaders,” Scott said. “Kolaj is not only an outstanding athlete, but he is a first-class human being with high character.

“He is the total package when you look at what he can do athletically and in the classroom. He’s in the Beta Club, he’s on Honor Roll, he does all kinds of stuff on campus, and he was the only underclassmen voted as a team captain this past season.”

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Cobbins ranks as the No. 263 overall prospect in the country, No. 22 linebacker in the nation and No. 10 prospect in Louisiana.
