Ray Ray Joseph signs in massive addition to Miami Hurricanes class: "Help is on the way"

It was initially a strange recruitment by the University of Miami for Miami Edison WR Ray Ray Joseph. The prior Miami Hurricanes staff never went after him hard, and Joseph wound up committing to Clemson in September of 2021.
“The last staff, never talked to them,” Joseph said.
Everything changed when Mario Cristobal and the new Canes staff came on board. They were relentless in their pursuit of Joseph. A sticking point? Joseph was asked by Clemson coaches not to take other visits unless it was a team event.
Joseph still snuck onto Miami’s campus a couple of times in addition to UM spring visits with his 7-on-7 and high school team.
CaneSport had reached out to Joseph after a couple of his Cane visits this year to see if it was okay to report them. “I was undercover – Clemson be tripping,” Joseph texted us after an early April visit. And then when he visited again a couple of weeks later he texted “I was there undercover, Clemson’s tripping their commit’s going out.”
Well, Joseph went out permanently June 14 when he decommitted from the Tigers. He committed to Miami June 28 and never looked back.
He’s now confirmed as a Hurricanes signee.
And he plans to help turn around this Miami program.
“Help is on the way, we’re coming, don’t worry about it,” he said.
Joseph gives UM a tremendous playmaker who, at 5-8 and 170 pounds, can run by defenders and has electric moves in the open field.
Helping the cause for Miami is that Joseph grew up a big Hurricanes fan.
He also played numerous positions in high school.
“(Joseph is) a three-year player, a guy who is going to go in and play three years and go to the league,” Edison High coach Luther Campbell said. “Ray is arguably the best cornerback in the state of Florida. If Ray played running back, he’d be the best running back in the state. What people don’t realize is that all throughout his (career before arriving at Edison), he was a running back. So every situation we used him in, it was like zero to 100 real fast, using vision, going the way you’ve got to go and playing the position to perfection.”
Joseph’s On3 scouting report reads “Cat-quick slot wide receiver who excels after the catch. Smaller in stature, dynamic with the ball in his hands. Gets up to top speed quickly and has the lateral agility to make defenders miss in space. Runs with good balance and often spins out of tackles. A threat to score on touches in the quick game. Shows the play speed to pull away from secondaries when in the open field. Has good ball skills for a smaller wide receiver and can elevate to come down with catches. … Older for the class, turning 18 years-old during his junior season.”
Joseph’s goal at Miami is simple: Win.
“We (this class) want to win, and we want to bring the program back because when Miami is on, the city is on,” he said. “We want to have the stadium packed out with everybody out and nobody leaving by halftime; the stadium should be packed the whole game. That’s what we want.
“We definitely just want to come in and change the program and do whatever it takes to help the program get back to what it used to be.”
Joseph is set to enroll at Miami in January.
