Michigan State lost another commitment to their 2024 class on Tuesday, Sept. 26, as four-star safety commitment Reggie Powers announced his decommitment via social media. The four-star out of Dayton (OH) Centerville High School had been committed to the Spartans since mid-June.

Powers took June official visits to Northwestern and Pittsburgh before cancelling trips to Cincinnati and Ohio State and committing to the Spartans. He will likely consider each of those schools, along with Oklahoma who offered on Sept. 21. UCLA also recently offered.

Powers sent a statement to On3 concerning his decommitment:

“Thank you to the Michigan State coaches and fans for supporting me throughout this process. There will always be love.”

A source close to the recruitment tells SpartanMag.com that the Powers family will continue to communicate with the Michigan State staff as his recruitment continues.

Powers ranks as the No. 358 player according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 35 safety and the No. 14 player in the state of Ohio.

On3 ranks him higher than the industry, as he tabs in as the No. 210 player nationally, the No. 21 safety, and the No. 10 player in Ohio.

Powers is the second decommitment from the Michigan State 2024 class, the first coming when Tampa (FL) Technical High School Camren Campbell decommitted on Sept. 23. The Michigan State class now sits at 11 members. Four-star offensive lineman Andrew Dennis took an unofficial visit to Illinois on Sept. 23. Wide receiver and highest ranked recruit in the Spartan class, Nick Marsh, is entertaining an official visit to Boulder (CO), as Deion Sanders and Colorado recently offered the four-star.

Three-star defensive back Justin Denson also remains committed to Michigan State for the time being, with other programs circling. Denson visited East Lansing over the weekend. Four-star running back Anthony Carrie of Tampa (FL) Carrollwood Day High School also continues to hear from other high level programs. He committed to Michigan State over finalists of North Carolina, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida, and others.
