Michigan State received a commitment from transfer portal running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams on Tuesday, per On3 national reporter Pete Nakos. Lynch-Adams has one season of eligibility remaining. He spent the previous three seasons at UMass after beginning his career at Rutgers, where he played for two seasons.

Lynch-Adams (5-10, 205) was the No. 563 overall player in the 2024 On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings. He was also the No. 50 running back in the portal.

Lynch-Adams initially entered the NFL Draft in early December, but he removed his name from the draft pool and entered the portal less than two weeks later. He drew interest from Ohio State, Florida State and Ole Miss, among others, during his stay in the December portal window.

Lynch-Adams withdrew from the portal in January, but re-entered it during the spring window. Lynch-Adams committed to Michigan State after taking an official visit to East Lansing on Monday. He also took an official visit to Central Florida.

Lynch-Adams ran for 1,157 yards and 12 touchdowns on 236 carries in 2023. He also racked up 118 receiving yards on 20 receptions last season. Lynch-Adams earned First Team All-Independent honors in 2023.

“A year ago [Lynch-Adams] was banged up, and we didn’t get the best that he had to offer,” UMass head coach Don Brown said this past season. “This year we’re getting the best out of Kay’Ron. He’s playing at a high level. He’s not the biggest guy in the world but he just finds a way to gain yards and make guys miss. He’s gaining a lot of yards after contact and he’s a great kid, too.”

Lynch-Adams appeared in 11 games in 2022, recording 297 yards and one touchdown on 84 carries. The year before that, he appeared in just four games for the Minutemen. He totaled 39 carries for 114 yards and one touchdown that season.

In 18 career games at Rutgers, he compiled 320 yards and two touchdowns on 83 carries.

Lynch-Adams held offers from Iowa, Cincinnati and Toledo, among others, as a three-star recruit out of Warren (Ohio) G. Harding High School. He was the No. 764 player in the 2019 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

Adams will join a Michigan State running back room that returns veterans Nate Carter and Jaren Mangham. Carter, true freshman Brandon Tullis and walk-ons Joseph Martinez and Chris Williams all participated in the scrimmaging portion of Saturday’s Spring Showcase. Mangham did not.

Three-star McKinney, Texas, running back Makhi Frazier will join the group when he enrolls at Michigan State this summer. Davion Primm and Jalen Berger both entered the transfer portal earlier this week.
