Michigan finished No. 19 overall in the 2023 On3 Consensus National Team Recruiting Rankings following the traditional signing period on Wednesday, picking up former Stanford verbal commit and Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon three-star defensive lineman Cameron Brandt.

The No. 46 overall ranked 2023 prospect at his position nationally, according to the On3 Consensus, didn’t sign in December following the resignation of former Cardinal head coach David Shaw. Brandt would take an official visit to Michigan two weekends ago and quickly developed a close relationship with defensive line coach Mike Elston.

“(Elston) sees me more of an EDGE,” Brandt told The Wolverine. “He wants to develop me into that. I feel like I can play anywhere, but I would love the opportunity to develop myself as an edge rusher. (Michigan’s) success with edge rushers appeals a lot to me. It shows they know what they are doing and know how to get their players to succeed.”

Michigan 2023 Recruiting Class

Prior to Wednesday, the Wolverines were 20th overall in the country, and now round out the 2023 cycle with eight four-star commits and 16 three-star commits. The addition of Brandt brought Michigan to a total score of 89.673 and helped the Wolverines place higher in the standings than Florida State, Utah, Arkansas, Michigan State, Mississippi State, and Texas Tech.

Rounding out the 24-man class alongside Brandt are On300 EDGE Enow Etta, On300 cornerback Jyaire Hill, On300 wide receiver Karmello English, On300 offensive tackle Evan Link, consensus four-star linebacker Semaj Bridgeman, On300 running back Cole Cabana, On300 offensive lineman Nathan Efobi, consensus four-star offensive lineman Amir Herring, four-star tight end Deakon Tonielli, three-star wide receivers Semaj Morgan and Fredrick Moore, three-star defensive linemen Brooks Bahr and Roderick Pierce, three-star linebacker Hayden Moore, three-star running back Benjamin Hall, three-star cornerbacks D’Juan Waller Jr. and Cameron Calhoun, three-star linebacker Breeon Ishmail, three-star athlete Jason Hewlett Jr., three-star EDGE Aymeric Koumba, three-star athlete Kendrick Bell, three-star tight end Zack Marshall, and three-star kicker Adam Samaha.

Two other 2023 targets were left on Michigan’s board in lead up to Wednesday in five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor and former Wisconsin defensive line commit Jamel Howard. Both would sign elsewhere after they each took official visits in the fall.
