Michigan has scored an important commitment on the recruiting trail.

Three-star Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day wide receiver Channing Goodwin sided with U-M on Sunday, picking the Wolverines over offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and others.

“There are a lot of great things about Michigan,” Goodwin said. “I’m very familiar with it. I’ve been out there a couple of times. I just love the culture that they have and what they are building up there.”

Goodwin grew up with Maize and Blue in his blood.

After all, Goodwin’s father is former Michigan offensive lineman Jonathan Goodwin, who went on to win a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints.

“My dad has told me that Michigan was a great place for him when he was coming up,” Channing said. “He told me it was the perfect spot for him to land and that it changed his life.”

Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy led the way in Goodwin’s recruitment and made him a top priority throughout the cycle.

Bellamy visited Goodwin at his high school earlier this spring and ultimately sealed the deal.

“I like him a lot,” Goodwin said. “He’s a great coach and person. I’ve been able to spend a lot of time with him on the visits. It feels like I’ve built a great relationship with him.”

At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds Goodwin is ranked as the No. 77 wide receiver and No. 436 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.

Goodwin has an On3 NIL Valuation of $29K with 5.1K followers across all platforms. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Goodwin is the first wide receiver commit in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class.

The Wolverines now hold 16 total verbal pledges — Top 100 Rochester (Mich.) Adams tight end Brady Prieskorn, Top 100 Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day quarterback Jadyn Davis, Top 100 Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller running back Jordan Marshall, On300 Harper Woods (Mich.) High defensive back Jacob Oden, On300 Nashville (Tenn.)
