The Wolverine’s EJ Holland caught up with Curtis about putting pen to paper and what it means to be a Wolverine. Watch the full Q&A in the video above.

The Skinny

Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 190
Senior Stats: Recorded 31 total tackles, three for a loss, four pass breakups, two defensive touchdowns, four fumble recoveries and one blocked field goal.
Industry Ranking: No. 25 linebacker, No. 304 overall
Interesting Facts: Part of NPA training program that produced Michigan linebacker Junior Colson. Older brother, Devyn, is a linebacker at Middle Tennessee State. Was the first commit in Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class.

Recruitment

Curtis notched a Michigan offer early on in his process and committed to the Wolverines way back in June of last year. He picked U-M over offers from Kentucky, Michigan State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and others. Michigan co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale served as his primary recruiter.

He Said It

“I’m really loyal. When I committed, I knew I was going to stay committed unless some dramatic change happened. With the coaching staff, the people there, the football program and the school academically, I never saw myself anywhere else.”

They Said It

“Since his freshman year, he’s been special. He’s one of those versatile athletes that can do so much for us in so many ways. He can play safety, defensive end and more. He just brings so many intangibles as a football player. He’s so instinctive, and he’s extremely athletic. Besides the athletic attributes, he has high character, and he’s a leader on our team. He brings that at the forefront. He has so many guys that follow him. That’s what’s so great about him. He’s leading this group, along with 14 other seniors, the right way. I do think he’ll be an outside linebacker at Michigan. He’s sitting at about 205 pounds. He’s played outside linebacker before. The fact that he plays safety and can cover will help him even more as an outside linebacker in college.” — Roc Batten, Ensworth head coach

Scouting Report

“Mason Curtis is an extremely rangy defender. He’s tall. He looks like he’s 6-foot-3.5 or 6-foot-4. He plays really well in space. He has a linebacker frame but has played a lot as a safety. He’s going to need to continue to fill out. He has high developmental upside. He’s a guy that’s a couple of years away from playing his best football but has a lot of potential, given his frame, movement skills and versatility.” — On3 Rankings Director Charles Power
