As the month of June began, Mississippi State welcomed numerous underclassmen and a few rising seniors to showcase their talents at Top Dawg Camp. Among those top underclassmen at Davis Wade Stadium was 2027 offensive tackle prospect DJ Dotson.

The Oak Grove High School product took advantage of the camp experience. And the main goal was to simply improve his game in the trenches heading into his junior season.

“I enjoyed the experience,” Dotson recalled. “They showed me things I can work on to get better at. It opened doors for me and it was an opportunity to better myself. There are things I can work on to better me, individually, and I really enjoyed it.”

Obviously, most of Dotson’s time at camp was spent learning from offensive line coach Phil Loadholt. Dotson noted of the tips he picked up from Loadholt and shared his thoughts on his time with Loadholt.

“It was a great experience with Coach Loadholt,” added the 6-foot-7 and 320-pound Dotson. “I feel like he showed me some things I can work on. He gave me a lot of advice on my pass sets and a lot of run-game advice that can help me be successful in the long run.”

Overall, Dotson talked well of his time around Mississippi State’s program. And being able to learn more at Top Dawg Camp confirmed his feelings on the Bulldogs.

“I like their program,” Dotson remarked. “Being a couple of hours down the road, I’ve always been invested in Mississippi State. I feel like it’s a good program and getting an inside view at camp was great. It is a good program in my eyes.”

Early on in his recruiting process, Dotson has reeled in several Division 1 offers and that includes Mississippi State. Dotson also intends to experience another SEC camp later this month.

“So far I have offers from Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Oregon State, Louisiana, Troy and Tulsa,” noted Dotson. “I also plan to go to Alabama’s camp in two weeks.”

Naturally, Dotson still has two full seasons left with his prep career and plenty of time to make decisions on the recruiting trail. So taking things day-by-day is Dotson’s route and he wants to keep evaluating programs on his radar.

“I would say it is too early for favorites,” Dotson mentioned. “I am still going on visits this summer. But I plan on narrowing it down next year.”
