Nebraska volleyball sweeps USC to finish West Coast trip

Top-ranked Nebraska volleyball (26-0, 16-0) took down USC (20-6, 11-5) in straight sets (25-13, 25-16, 25-20) in the final game of their West Coast trip. The Huskers defeated the Trojans in a sold-out Galen Center in front of 9,072 fans.
Although Nebraska’s absurd 48-set winning streak fell in its last game against UCLA, Dani Busboom Kelly‘s team wasn’t fazed. The Huskers pressed USC from start to finish, leaving the No. 17 team in the country no room for error.
Nebraska’s defense was the driving force in the win. The Trojans were limited to a .156 hitting percentage and committed 16 attacking errors. The Huskers outdug USC 54-29.
Behind an incredible first set, the Huskers’ offense had a solid outing. The Scarlet and Cream hit .412 in the match. Harper Murray, Virginia Adriano and Taylor Landfair all led the team with 10 kills. Murray also added seven digs and two blocks. Rebekah Allick added nine and hit .692.
Bergen Reilly also had a great match. The junior setter had 42 assists and a game-high 14 digs, while adding two kills on a 1.000 hitting percentage.
Set 1: Huskers start strong
Nebraska set the tone early in the match. The Huskers shot out of the gate, winning the first set 25-13 in dominating fashion.
Nebraska went down early but went on a 6-1 run to take an early lead. USC’s offense started the game with a quick surge, but the Huskers’ defense tightened up. The Trojans had six hitting errors and recorded a .125 clip in the set.
Landfair led the charge on offense. The outside hitter recorded six kills while hitting .500 in the set. Six Nebraska players posted a .500 percentage or better in the set. The Huskers recorded a .500 clip as a team in the set.
Set 2: Scarlet and Cream continue to roll
Nebraska’s overall dominance rolled into the second set. The Huskers continued to give the Trojans no room, taking the set 25-16.

Nebraska’s offense cooled off slightly in the second set. The Huskers hit .387 and posted four hitting errors in the set. Murray had four kills while Landfair added two more to her total in the set.
However, USC still struggled to fight through Nebraska’s defense. The Trojans posted a .184 hitting percentage and four more hitting errors in the set.
Set 3: Nebraska shuts the door
The Huskers didn’t allow a repeat of the UCLA match against USC. Nebraska handled business, taking the set 25-20.
The Trojans played their most competitive set of the match. USC paced the Huskers in the beginning and middle of the set, but Nebraska pulled away behind a balanced attack.
The Huskers’ offense hit .359 as Adriano posted five of her kills in the set. Nebraska’s defense also continued to stifle the Trojans. USC posted six more hitting errors in the final set and hit .154.
The Huskers will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 7:00 p.m. CT against Iowa at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The match will be broadcast on FS1.
