Blink and before you know it, OU spring football is here. The Sooners are back to the fields Monday, and SoonerScoop will be there every step of the way.

The Unofficial 40 podcast is back talking basketball and softball, but it’s time to dig back into football and recruiting.

Your five-man crew (Josh McCuistion, Carey Murdock, Bob Przybylo, Eddie Radosevich, George Stoia) are back to break it all down on a busy Wednesday in Norman.

Breathe in that OU spring football

Practice officially begins Monday, but Wednesday was all about your primer to spring football. We talked to head coach Brent Venables and 35 newcomers. Yep, 35, between the freshmen and the transfers.

Venables spoke very highly of the way the 22 freshmen are attacking their initial months in Norman. You can hear the experience and eagerness among the transfers.

Wide receiver Deion Burks is ready to be the next Drake Stoops. Defensive tackle Jayden Jackson is already packing on the pounds.

A lot to like, a lot to digest.

Future Freaks

March means opening up the recruiting game again. The dead period is long gone, and OU is taking advantage with its Future Freaks event Saturday in Norman.

Although the focus is primarily the 2026 class, there are a few 2025 recruits coming into town as well. McCuistion gets you prepared for what is a pretty big visitor list for the Sooners.

OU is dancing, deal with it

The last month has seen some highs and lows with men’s basketball. But after earning win No. 20 this season Tuesday night, Porter Moser and company will be in the NCAA Tournament.

It was the goal. All the players talked about it. And one last gutty effort checked the final box necessary to feel comfortable the rest of the way.

The Sooners close the season at Texas in a game, that strangely enough, might not mean much. OU and UT seem destined to play again in Kansas City next week.

Softball is breathing again after the 71-game winning streak being snapped. Baseball is bouncing back after a rough trip to Las Vegas. And just like that, Big 12 conference play begins for both.

It’s all here. It is the Unofficial 40 from SoonerScoop.
