And just like that, OU spring football is in the books. The Sooners were able to have their spring game Saturday with little hiccups.

A lot to like, a lot to digest. When it comes to Team 130, head coach Brent Venables is eager where the guys go from here.

Who steps up as the leaders? He gave kudos to quarterback Jackson Arnold for his attitude so far. The Red earned the 65-58 win in a two-hour event that saw good things from each side of the ball. But the work isn’t done yet.

“I expect another jump during the course of the summer,” said Venables after the spring game. “A lot of player-led things happen in the summertime. So they gotta do a great job for us to be where we want to be when we come back in August. He’s got to do a great job. And everybody. Not just one person. But he leads the way, from being player driven and getting things done. Being efficient, working together, and again, continue to build our chemistry, our cohesion, our relationships. All those things are incredibly important.

“We have 30 percent of our guys that were in the locker room right now, this was their first spring game. By the time we get back together in August, it will be just under 40 percent, I think it’s 38 percent, will be first-time participants. So really looking forward to that and really excited to the additions we have made through high school, a few of the portal additions as well. I really feel like it’s been a group of guys that have helped us, have created a value for themselves and trust, and again the summertime will be an opportunity to enhance that.”
