SMU vs. Miami: Point spread, How to Watch

The SMU Mustangs are set to take on the Miami Hurricanes Saturday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN, but Rhett Lashlee’s team is a double-digit underdog. According to BetMGM, Mario Cristobal’s team is a 10.5-point favorite over SMU.
The total is set at 51.5 points for the second ever meeting between the two programs. SMU won the last meeting in 1965.
SMU’s coming off a 13-12 loss at Wake Forest on Saturday. The offensive side of the ball did not bring it like a Lashlee team usually does and Lashlee took responsibility for not getting more out of the Mustangs.
“They did a really nice job of not letting us get out on the edges and and keeping us from being explosive and we weren’t able to grind it out,” Lashlee said. “Then even when we got opportunities with short fields, we really weren’t able to take advantage of it. I’d say that, and I just wasn’t able to find the right buttons to push to get us over the hump.”

Against Miami, the defensive personnel is even more impressive than Wake Forest, but could be missing a key player.
Miami was without edge rusher Akheem Mesidor for their win over Stanford on Saturday. This came after the star defender suffered a foot injury during their Friday night loss to Louisville. In six games this season, Mesidor has 28 total tackles and 5.0 tackles for a loss. That includes 3.5 sacks.
“We felt Akheem was really close,” Cristobal said after Saturday’s game. “We felt all week he was gonna be there, and then sometimes you can present yourself with an opportunity to play a player, and then the medical staff has to calculate what type of risk is involved. Can we set him back? Is this a guy who can be a full-speed player with another couple of days?”
SMU had a rough day against Wake Forest and will look to rebound Saturday against Miami.
