The complete revamp of the South Carolina running back room is complete.

SC State transfer portal running back Jawarn Howell, an FCS Freshman All-American this past season, announced a commitment to the Gamecocks on Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder led the MEAC in rushing with 808 yards on 102 carries (7.92 yards per carry) and seven touchdowns. He added ten receptions for 149 yards and two TDs.

His biggest game this past season came when he was named FCS National Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 283 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries against Howard.

Howell landed an offer from South Carolina last week and took an official visit to Columbia during the middle of this week.

He has three seasons of eligibility as well as a redshirt year left.

Howell is the third transfer portal pledge in the Gamecocks’ class, joining former Arkansas running back Rocket Sanders and former North Texas back Oscar Adaway III.
