It’s decision day for South Carolina LB target Wendell Gregory

It’s been a banner week for South Carolina’s 2024 football recruiting class and on Friday they’ll see if they can add yet another Blue Chip prospect to that growing commit list.

Marietta (Ga.) Walton four-star linebacker Wendell Gregory will announce his decision Friday at 4:30 p.m. among finalists South Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, Missouri and North Carolina.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound prospect was last in Columbia last weekend for the Gamecocks’ junior day.

In the past, he has spoken highly of head coach Shane Beamer.

“I feel he’s one of the best coaches in college football, to me. He’s a real family type of guy, that’s why I really like him,” Gregory told Gamecock Central in December. “He cares about you and he is going to support you always. If you’re down, he’s going to pick you up. That’s why they brought him in to be the head coach at South Carolina.”

The On3 Consensus – a complete and equally weighted industry standard that takes into account rankings from all four major recruiting services – ranks Gregory as the No. 120 overall prospect in the class as well as the No. 14 linebacker and No. 21 prospect in Georgia.

On3’s analysts are even higher on Gregory, ranking him the No. 39 overall prospect, No. 4 linebacker and No. 5 prospect in Georgia for the 2024 class.

Quarterback Dante Reno committed to the Gamecocks last summer while offensive tackle Kam Pringle committed Sunday afternoon and tight end Michael Smith committed on Tuesday.

South Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class is already No. 8 in the country without the potential addition of Gregory.

Will the Gamecocks land the Blue Chip linebacker on Friday?

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine certainly believes so.

South Carolina currently holds a commanding lead in the RPM which gives the Gamecocks a 96.5 percent chance to land him on Friday.
