It’s rankings day at On3, and two of South Carolina’s priority targets in the 2023 class both moved up inside the top 50 prospects nationally.

Both Jordan Butler and Coen Carr slid up the rankings and enter their senior years as four-star prospects.

Butler, whose parents each went to South Carolina, surged up 12 spots in the latest update. He’s the No. 42 player in the class and the No. 5 center.

Carr moved up nine spots to No. 47. On3 considers him the No. 9 small forward in the 2023 class also.

The Gamecocks are heavily involved in both and will continue to push for both in this class as priority targets.

South Carolina’s hosted both for unofficial visits in June with each saying good things about the trip.

“It was real good. The facilities are great. I got to talk with some of the players and they’re really cool,” Carr told GamecockCentral at Peach Jam. “They’re nice people. The coaches are nice, great people. You could tell they know basketball.”

Butler also got a chance to go down to campus and visit with the Gamecocks’ new staff.

“They were talking about just not basketball but stuff off the court. I love it. It’s something about having good people around,” he said soon after the trip.

“The team is just a bunch of good guys. If you’re in trouble they’re going to get you out of trouble and mentor you in the right direction. It’s good.”

Both are eyeing South Carolina official visits sometime over the course of the next few months before their decisions this fall.

Lamont Paris and the rest of South Carolina’s assistants were mainstays at each player’s games during the final live period.

Carr played at Peach Jam while Butler was playing with his grassroots team nearby at Augusta University.

South Carolina has also offered Collin Murray-Boyles in the 2023 as well. Murray-Boyles started his career at AC Flora but will play his senior season in Utah.

The Gamecocks also watched him heavily during the summer evaluation periods.

South Carolina doesn’t have any commitments yet in the 2023 class.

Its 2022 class is ranked No. 7 overall, headlined by No. 10 prospect nationally GG Jackson.

Point guard Zachary Davis checks in as the No. 145 player in the class. On3 doesn’t currently rank Daniel Hankins-Sanford, but the consensus rating has him as the No. 181 overall player.

The Gamecocks also bring in a heavy transfer portal class. Meechie Johnson Jr. (Ohio State), Hayden Brown (The Citadel), Ebrima Dibba (Coastal Carolina) and Benjamin Bosmans-Verdonk (Illinois) all enrolled over the summer.
