The Gamecocks landed in the top four for guard Max Klesmit, who spent the last two seasons at Wofford.

He’s coming off his best season yet where he averaged 14.9 points on 44.6 percent shooting and had 1.9 assists to 2.1 turnovers. He also shot 83.7 percent from the line as well.

Klesmit started all 31 games this season for the Terriers, averaging almost 32 minutes per game, while ending as one of the best players on the team this year. He also put up 27 points on South Carolina last season on 8-for-10 shooting, 5-for-7 from three.

He finished second on the team in points per game, fourth in player efficiency rating (PER) and fourth in box plus-minus as well.

South Carolina is joined in the top four with Vanderbilt, Clemson and Colorado State.

The Gamecocks need to add some pieces from the portal after a handful of defections and could be close to potentially adding a few. South Carolina currently has six spots available on the current roster to get back to 13 scholarship players.

The Citadel transfer Hayden Brown also as the Gamecocks in his top three—along with Georgia Tech and Loyola Chicago—and South Carolina is continuing to mine the portal as the offseason goes on.

South Carolina’s Lamont Paris is also in the midst of rounding out his staff. He’s already added two assistants in Tanner Bronson and Eddie Shannon, both of whom were on his staff at Chattanooga.

It was announced Wednesday he would also bring with him David McKinley as director of player development, Colby Arendale as director of operations and Roman DiPasquale as video coordinator for the Gamecocks.

Paris is also retaining Scott Greenawalt as strength and conditioning coach along with Mark Rodger as an athletic trainer. Carey Rich is coming on as special assistant to the head coach as well.

The only thing necessary to fill now is South Carolina’s third on-court assistant role.
